China’s domestic flight fuel surcharge will rise from Oct 10, 2026, according to airline notices reported by Chinese outlets. For tickets sold or issued from that date, the surcharge is 50 yuan per passenger on routes of 800 km or less, 10 yuan more than before, and 90 yuan on routes longer than 800 km, 20 yuan more, IT Home, CLS, 36Kr and Jiemian reported. [ 1 , 3 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]

IT Home said the adjustment came in a Jiuyuan Airlines notice citing official documents on the mechanism linking the domestic passenger fuel surcharge to jet fuel prices. It reported that infant passengers are exempt, while children, disabled revolutionary soldiers and disabled people’s police who qualify for the 50% adult fare pay half: 20 yuan on routes of 800 km or less and 40 yuan on longer routes. [ 1 ]

The surcharge is levied according to the original ticketing date, IT Home reported, and when a ticket is rebooked the surcharge is neither refunded nor supplemented. IT Home listed the year’s adult levels as 20 yuan and 10 yuan from Jan 5, 120 yuan and 60 yuan from Apr 5, 170 yuan and 90 yuan from May 16, 150 yuan and 80 yuan from Jun 5, 100 yuan and 50 yuan from Jul 5, 70 yuan and 40 yuan from Aug 5, and the new 90 yuan and 50 yuan from Oct 10, for routes over 800 km and up to 800 km respectively. [ 1 ]

CLS, citing flight data provider 航班管家DAST and airlines’ latest notices, said the new levels are 20 yuan and 10 yuan higher than in August and September. [ 3 ]

China News Service said its reporters learned from China Southern and several other airlines that tickets sold from Oct 10 inclusive would carry the higher surcharge. 36Kr and Jiemian carried the same account, with the amounts and the 10 yuan and 20 yuan increases, attributing the information to CCTV News. Xinhua reported in a headline that the surcharge on mainland routes would rise from Oct 10, without further detail. The reports did not name the other airlines beyond China Southern, and only IT Home described the reduced-fare rules. [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]

Por qué importa

The increase raises the cost of domestic air travel in China from Oct 10, after the surcharge had fallen through the middle of 2026. The change applies to tickets sold from that date and is presented as a routine adjustment under an existing jet-fuel price linkage mechanism, so its effect is limited to travel within mainland China.
