En breve

Meta Platforms and Microsoft have asked employees to reduce their use of Anthropic’s Claude models and shift to their own AI tools to cut costs, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter. Microsoft cut its expected internal Anthropic budget by more than a third, while internal Claude Code users at Meta fell to about 30,000 from roughly 60,000 earlier this year. The pullback comes as Anthropic prepares a potentially record-setting IPO and its draft prospectus shows two customers account for about a quarter of revenue.

Meta Platforms and Microsoft have asked employees to reduce their use of Anthropic’s Claude models and rely more on their own AI tools in order to cut costs, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter. Both companies are customers as well as competitors of Anthropic, cnBeta reported. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

Microsoft executives had expected internal spending on Anthropic AI to reach at least $1 billion a year, cnBeta and IT Home reported, citing The Information. The company later cut that expected figure by more than a third after asking staff to rely less on Claude and more on Microsoft’s in-house AI tools. cnBeta said the lower figure excludes customer spending on Anthropic models accessed through Microsoft tools, which has been rising steadily. IT Home said the change concerns internal day-to-day use and does not mean demand for Anthropic models that Microsoft serves to customers through its enterprise cloud platform has fallen. [ 2 , 3 ]

At Meta, internal users of Claude Code fell recently to about 30,000, down from roughly 60,000 earlier this year. cnBeta reported that part of the decline followed spring layoffs of about 10% of staff, when headcount stood at 78,000, but that a larger factor was Meta’s promotion of its own AI coding tools and Muse Spark models. MetaCode has more than 30,000 internal users, and Muse Code, tested with outside customers since August, has more than 6,000 internal users, the reports said. Even after the decline, internal data showed Meta spent more than $105 million on Claude Code in the most recent 28 days. [ 2 , 3 ]

cnBeta reported that Meta used Claude while developing its consumer Muse AI agent but switched to its own models for the product launched last month. A June memo put Meta’s internal AI tool spending this year at billions of dollars, without breaking the figure down by vendor. The report said a spring surge in Claude use inside Meta, with employees competing on an employee-created “Claudeonomics” leaderboard, led management to promise tighter controls in June, including budgets, token limits and a central dashboard. [ 2 ]

The pullback comes as Anthropic prepares an initial public offering that the reports describe as potentially the largest ever, a process that requires it to disclose more about its business to potential investors. According to its draft prospectus, two customers accounted for nearly a quarter of last year’s revenue, and Anthropic said most large customers have not signed long-term agreements, leaving them free to cut or stop spending at any time. [ 2 , 3 ]

cnBeta reported that Anthropic’s annualised revenue passed $65 billion by July, more than seven times the level at the start of the year, and that about 6,000 customers spent at least $100,000 on its software in the 12 months to June, four times the count for all of 2025. More than 1,000 enterprises spent over $1 million and more than 100 spent over $10 million, the report said. cnBeta also reported that large corporate users including Palantir Technologies, Nvidia and Booz Allen Hamilton sought new safeguards or reduced or stopped use of Anthropic’s most advanced models over data-privacy concerns, and that Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced a new Meta Enterprise Platform unit last week. [ 2 ]

Por qué importa

Anthropic is preparing what the reports describe as a potentially record-setting listing, and its draft prospectus says most large customers have not signed long-term agreements, so spending cuts by two of its biggest users matter for how investors judge the business. The shift also shows how far Meta and Microsoft are willing to push their own AI tools against a model they both buy and compete with.

Aún sin aclarar

  • Whether Meta and Microsoft are the two customers that account for roughly 25% of Anthropic’s revenue. IT Home says the prospectus does not name the customers and that market speculation points to Meta and Microsoft.
  • Whether Microsoft’s internal cutback signals weaker demand for Anthropic models that Microsoft serves to customers. IT Home reports the adjustment covers internal day-to-day use and that Microsoft still offers Claude through its enterprise cloud platform, but no figures for that demand are given.
  • How much of Meta’s drop in Claude Code users is due to spring layoffs rather than encouragement to use in-house tools. cnBeta reports both factors and calls in-house tools the more important one, but the split is not quantified.
  • Anthropic’s reported revenue figures, including more than $65 billion annualised as of July. cnBeta attributes the figure to reports rather than to the prospectus, and no second outlet in the documents repeats it.
