Rory McIlroy has been confirmed for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, to be played from November 12-15 at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. The Northern Irishman, a seven-time Race to Dubai champion, is aiming to draw level with Colin Montgomerie’s record haul of eight Harry Vardon Trophies. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
McIlroy, 37, sits second in the Race to Dubai Rankings and is chasing leader Patrick Reed, who is also confirmed in the field bound for Dubai. McIlroy more than halved the gap to the American at last month’s BMW PGA Championship, where a closing 68 at Wentworth Club earned him a share of second place, the reports said. The National added that he is attempting to win the Race to Dubai for the fifth year in a row and that he had last week confirmed his participation in the DP World Tour’s penultimate tournament in Abu Dhabi at Yas Links the week before Dubai. “I’ve always loved coming to Dubai and I’ve had some great days on the Earth course, so I’m really looking forward to being back for the DP World Tour Championship,” said McIlroy, a 21-time winner on the DP World Tour. “Getting to eight and drawing level with Monty would mean a lot. He was an amazing player to watch when I was growing up, and the Race to Dubai is something I’ve always taken a lot of pride in. To have the opportunity to win it again, and potentially match Monty’s record, would be a pretty special way to finish the season.” [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The World No 2 returns to Dubai after defending his Masters title at Augusta National in April. Having completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta last year, he became only the fourth back-to-back Masters champion, after Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods, the reports said. He has also won the DP World Tour Championship on the Earth course three times, in 2012, 2015 and 2024. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Now in its 18th year, the DP World Tour Championship is described by Emirates 24|7 and Gulf News as one of Dubai’s leading sporting and social events. According to those outlets, entry is free on Thursday, November 12 with pre-registration, general admission tickets for Friday to Sunday are available from AED 160, and children aged 17 and under go free across all four days, though the text on their registration is truncated in both reports. Por qué importa
The confirmation puts the World No 2 and reigning European No 1 into the season-ending event in Dubai, where the Race to Dubai title is decided. His presence, alongside rankings leader Patrick Reed, gives the tournament its headline field and adds weight to Dubai’s position as a host of major sporting and social occasions.
