Insider Gaming sources now expect the director’s version of Watch Dogs: Legion to arrive in the first half of 2027, later than the 2026 window previously reported. The existence of the project was first reported by insider Tom Henderson in March, who said at the time that Ubisoft was preparing a director’s version with new content. The fresh timing was reported by Igromania, 3DNews and DTF on October 6, all citing Insider Gaming. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

According to 3DNews, the re-release will include a number of improvements and “possibly a little additional content.” The director’s version is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, while the original game was made by Ubisoft Toronto. The original Watch Dogs: Legion is an open-world hacker action game set in a near-future London, where the hacking group DedSec tries to take the city back from an authoritarian regime by recruiting ordinary residents. Watch Dogs: Legion debuted in October 2020 and is available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S. 3DNews noted that sales were not disclosed, but that Ubisoft was presumed to be unhappy with the game’s results. The article also said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently told investors that Watch Dogs was an important franchise for the company’s future, but not important enough to be included in its creative house at the moment. [ 2 ]

No new Watch Dogs games are officially in development, according to 3DNews. A film based on the series, directed by Mathieu Turi, is still being prepared for release; filming ended in fall 2024. DTF reported the first-half 2027 window and noted that a full return to the franchise does not appear to be planned. [ 2 , 3 ]

Por qué importa

The delay pushes the franchise’s only known new release further out, after Ubisoft’s CEO said Watch Dogs was important for the company’s future but not important enough to join its creative house at the moment. The documents give no release date for the film or any new game, so the series’ near-term future remains limited to a re-release.
