China road traffic stable on day six of holiday; rain threatens return travel

En breve

China's road traffic safety situation was described as generally stable and orderly as of 18:00 on 6 October, the sixth day of the National Day holiday, with heavy volumes of return traffic on major highways and national and provincial roads. Rain forecast for 7 October in parts of Hainan, Sichuan and Yunnan is expected to make roads slippery and cut visibility, adding pressure to the return journey. The Ministry of Public Security's traffic management bureau advised drivers to take care.

Por qué importa

The return phase of China's National Day holiday concentrates large traffic volumes on major routes, so official assessments of road safety and weather warnings are closely followed by travellers. Rain in several provinces could affect conditions on 7 October, the documents say, with pressure on keeping return traffic moving. Coverage is routine and official in character, with no figures given on traffic volumes or incidents.
