The playoff stage of VALORANT Champions Shanghai begins on Oct 7, with eight teams competing in a double-elimination bracket, according to Riot Games. The first day features T1 against NRG and Paper Rex against LOUD, and Nongshim RedForce play Team Vitality, EMEA's only remaining team, on Oct 8. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
From the Pacific region, Paper Rex, T1 and Nongshim RedForce reached the playoffs. Paper Rex beat Team Liquid and G2 by 2-1 each to top Group C. T1 lost its opener to 100 Thieves 0-2 before beating FUT Esports 2-0, a result the outlets described as avenging two losses to FUT Esports at Champions 2023. Nongshim RedForce, in their first Champions appearance, lost 0-2 to defending champion NRG and then won two straight matches. [ 2 , 3 ]
The Americas region placed all four of its teams in the playoffs and lost only five of the 22 sets played in the group stage, the outlets reported. Top seed 100 Thieves advanced without dropping a set. The host region, China, lost all four of its teams, including 2024 champion Edward Gaming, which won no sets. EMEA was represented in the playoffs only by Team Vitality. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The playoffs also carry record implications, according to the Korean coverage. NRG, last year's champion, is attempting to become the first two-time Champions winner and the first to win back-to-back titles, Kyunghyang Games and Gamemeca reported. No Pacific team has won Champions, and Gamemeca said the region's best result was Paper Rex's runner-up finish in 2023, so PRX, T1 and Nongshim RedForce are chasing a first title for the region. Por qué importa
Two Korean teams reaching the playoff stage keeps Korean interest in a tournament whose group stage was dominated by the Americas region and in which the host region lost every team. The playoff also decides whether NRG can become the first two-time Champions winner, or whether a Pacific team takes the title for the first time.
