The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium on the 16th, Korean time, completing a four-game sweep of the best-of-seven series. Milwaukee returns to the World Series for the first time since 1982. Yonhap, Maeil Business and CBS NoCut News described the Dodgers' exit as a 4-0 sweep that ended their bid for a third consecutive World Series title. [ 1 , 6 , 7 , 9 , 12 ]
The Dodgers led early. Andy Pages (앤디 파헤스) drove in the first run with a single in the second inning, and Ohtani, back in the leadoff spot, followed with a three-run home run to make it 4-0. Chosun Ilbo said the home run was Ohtani's first of the postseason and came 58 days after his last one, against the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 19. Hankook Ilbo gave the date of his previous home run as Aug. 18. [ 3 , 6 , 7 , 10 ]
Milwaukee came back. Jake Bauers (제이크 바워스) hit a two-run double in the fourth. In the fifth, a single by Hamilton and a bases-loaded walk to Bauers tied it at 4-4. Mitchell hit a solo home run in the sixth to put Milwaukee ahead, and Hamilton added a solo home run in the ninth. The Dodgers had runners on third with one out in both the seventh and eighth innings but did not score, and Ohtani struck out in his other three at-bats. [ 1 , 6 , 7 ]
Yonhap reported that Milwaukee, founded in 1969, last reached the World Series in 1982 as an American League team. It said this is the club's first league title since it moved to the National League Central in 1998. Yonhap also said Milwaukee had paid back its 4-0 loss to the Dodgers in last year's NLCS. Seoul Economic Daily said Milwaukee has not yet won a World Series and will chase its first title. [ 6 , 15 ]
Dave Roberts, the Dodgers manager, said Ohtani's show of emotion after the home run was anger and frustration released, and that it was his best-hit ball in the last two to three months. He said Ohtani is not fully healthy and that he respects him for wanting to play at less than 100 percent, according to Newsis and CBS NoCut News. Ohtani told MLB.com that Milwaukee had shown it is a strong team and that he had to admit his own ability fell short. He said he would review his treatment and training from scratch and that it was too early to say whether he would need surgery. [ 13 , 14 ]
Yonhap and Seoul Economic Daily said the Dodgers' exit means this year's World Series winner will be a small-market team for the first time since the 2015 Kansas City Royals. Cleveland led Tampa Bay 2-1 in the American League series after a 3-2 win in Game 3. Milwaukee hosts World Series Game 1 on Oct. 24, according to Yonhap, Maeil Business and Seoul Economic Daily, while Hankook Ilbo said the final starts on the 23rd. [ 6 , 10 , 12 , 15 ]
