Nuri lifts off with 15 satellites, separates all payloads
Versión 2: Nuri lifted off on 7 October and separated all 15 satellites, with the cluster satellites and then the cube satellites confirmed one by one; the Korea AeroSpace Administration had not yet announced an official success determination.
En breve
South Korea's Nuri launch vehicle lifted off at 12:25 pm on 7 October from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, carrying 15 satellites, the most in a single Nuri flight. The five main-payload cluster satellites separated at intervals of 35 to 40 seconds and the 10 cube satellites were ejected two at a time, with Yonhap confirming each cluster satellite and later all the cube satellites. The Korea AeroSpace Administration and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute have not yet announced an official success determination.

Nuri lifted off at 12:25 pm on 7 October from the second launch pad at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, and separated all 15 satellites it carried, Chosun Ilbo, Hankook Ilbo and Newsis reported. Newsis said the third stage shut down about 761 seconds after lift-off at an altitude of 575 km, describing the target as a sun-synchronous orbit at about 570 km, the same range Hankook Ilbo cited. Hankook Ilbo reported that KASA and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute plan to analyse the flight data and announce the results, and Newsis said no official success determination had been issued yet. Seoul Shinmun called it Nuri's first on-time launch. [ 10 , 15 , 17 , 20 ]
Newsis reported that the first stage separated about 123 seconds after lift-off at an altitude of 67 km, the fairing was jettisoned about 233 seconds in at 224 km, and the second stage separated at about 268 seconds at 277 km. CBS NoCut News said umbilical connections and other installation work on the pad were finished around 8:05 pm the previous day. [ 8 , 17 ]
The main payload, NEONSAT 2, separated about 810 seconds after lift-off at 575 km, followed by satellites 3 to 6 at intervals of 35 to 40 seconds, Newsis reported. Cube satellites were then released two at a time, the first pair about 995 seconds in and the last pair about 1,035 seconds in, at roughly 10-second intervals. CBS NoCut News reported that the five cluster satellites begin separating about 13 minutes 30 seconds after lift-off, that the process takes about two minutes 30 seconds, and that the third stage turns a total of 180 degrees during the releases using attitude-control thrusters. A KASA official told the outlet the manoeuvre was for collision avoidance between satellites and efficient cluster deployment. [ 8 , 17 ]
Asia Economy reported that the five cluster satellites, developed under the direction of KAIST's Satellite Research Institute, use thrusters and relative velocity to widen their spacing and match altitudes, forming a formation spaced about 71 degrees apart in the same orbital plane over about two to three months. Han Young-min, head of KARI's launch vehicle research centre, said there was not enough time to release 15 satellites, and Park Jae-sung of KASA's space transport division said the mission would raise Nuri's capability by a step, the outlet reported. Newsis put the satellite section's mass at about 1,071 kg, more than 100 kg above the fourth flight's roughly 960 kg. Asia Economy also reported that Pusan National University and Chosun University jointly developed the cube satellite CPSat, selected through a 2022 cube satellite competition, to demonstrate next-generation optical communication. [ 1 , 9 , 17 ]
Asia Economy said the fifth flight involves a larger private-sector role and tighter launch safety standards, and Newsis framed it as a testbed for a “private rocket.” Newsis reported that Hanwha Aerospace is the vehicle's system integrator and supplies the 75-ton liquid engine, that 23 people operate 20 of 22 consoles at the launch control centre, and that 42 people take part in launch operations. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries built the second pad's ground systems with 100 percent localisation of the related process technology, and about 300 domestic small and medium-sized companies take part in the programme, according to Newsis. [ 2 , 3 , 7 ]
Goheung county said it would run the space launch observatory, about 17 km from the Naro Space Center, from 9 am on the 7th, capping indoor viewers at 200 and closing vehicle access around the observatory from 9 am until the launch ended, Newsis reported. A busking performance was scheduled from 11 am to noon. [ 6 ]
Por qué importa
The flight was Nuri's first cluster-satellite deployment, requiring the third stage to change attitude between releases so the satellites would not collide, which a KASA official said would raise the vehicle's mission capability by a step. Newsis framed the launch as a testbed for a “private rocket,” while Asia Economy said private-sector involvement and launch safety standards have grown, with about 300 domestic small and medium-sized companies taking part in the programme. The documents give no basis for consequences beyond the mission and the supply chain they describe.
