The 105th Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was run over 2,400 metres on turf at ParisLongchamp on 4 October, starting at 23:05 Japan time. According to Yahoo! News Japan, no Japanese-trained horse won the race again this year: the favourite, Dariz, took the title for a second consecutive year. [ 1 ]
Meisho Tabaru, a five-year-old colt, was ridden by Yutaka Take, who was making his 12th attempt at the race. Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the horse, who came into the Arc having won the Takarazuka Kinen (G1) twice in a row, boldly took the lead but ran out of power early in the final straight, finishing 14th according to Yahoo! News Japan. Take said: “It is not that easy. I want to win it someday,” the newspaper reported, describing him as showing frustration. [ 1 , 2 ]
Admire Terra, a five-year-old colt trained by Yasuo Tomomichi, was ridden by C. Demuro, who Yomiuri Shimbun said knows French racing well. Yahoo! News Japan reported the horse finished 11th, and Yomiuri reported he took a forward position but lacked the acceleration needed at the decisive stage. Tomomichi said: “He gave me the ideal race, but we were beaten on the final turn of foot,” and was downcast, the newspaper said. [ 1 , 2 ]
Why it matters
The result extends a run of defeats for Japanese-trained horses in Europe’s leading middle-distance race, a target the Japanese racing world has long pursued. For followers of Japanese racing, the outcome is a familiar disappointment rather than a new development, and the documents give no indication it changes anything beyond the record of this year’s race.

Confirmed by several sources
- Nothing is confirmed by two independent outlets yet.
Still unclear
- The finishing positions of the two Japanese horses — 14th for Meisho Tabaru and 11th for Admire Terra — are stated only by Yahoo! News Japan. Single source, and a community-tier aggregator; no second document gives placings.
- The winner is identified as the favourite, Dariz (ダリズ), and no English spelling of the name appears in the documents. Only one document names the winner, so the name and its transliteration cannot be cross-checked.
- The jockey of Admire Terra is given only as C. Demuro, with a first initial and no full name. Both documents use only the initial, so the full name is not established.
