Three people were killed and three wounded when a drone struck a minibus in the village of Basan in the Polohiv municipal district of the Zaporizhzhia region, governor Yevgeny Balitsky said, according to RBC. RBC identified the vehicle as a route minibus and attributed the account to the governor. [ 5 ]

Earlier the same morning, TASS reported that three people had been killed and three injured in a Ukrainian strike in the Zaporizhzhia region. That report did not name a location within the region or the weapon involved, so the documents do not establish whether it describes the same incident as the Basan strike. [ 4 ]

Also on 6 October, TASS reported that two people had been killed and two injured in Ukrainian attacks in the Zaporizhzhia region over the preceding 24 hours. TASS did not say how that tally relates to the strike it reported later the same morning. [ 3 ]

The Zaporizhzhia reports follow an incident two days earlier in Russia’s Kursk region. On the evening of 4 October, RIA Novosti reported that two people had been injured in Ukrainian attacks there, and TASS reported the same incident six minutes later. TASS specified that a woman received a blind shrapnel non-penetrating wound to the abdomen and that a man received barotrauma, a closed head injury and concussion. RIA Novosti’s item carried only the headline line on two injured. [ 1 , 2 ]

Neither Kursk report named a settlement or district within the region, the time of the attacks or the weapons used. The documents also carry no claim of responsibility for any of the incidents and no response from Ukrainian authorities. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]

Por qué importa

The documents add to the casualty accounts Russian officials publish from the Zaporizhzhia region and from Kursk, which borders Ukraine, and indicate that a civilian minibus in a village was among the targets. The documents give no wider casualty figures or front-line context, so the broader significance is not established by this coverage.

Aún sin aclarar

  • Whether TASS’s report of three killed and three injured in the Zaporizhzhia region is the same strike on the minibus in Basan that RBC reported. TASS’s 11:28 item gives no location or weapon, so the documents do not establish whether it is the same event RBC described.
