Pyeongchang County's Dementia Care Center was selected as an excellent institution in the 2025–2026 dementia management implementation plan and results evaluation and received a minister award, Yonhap reported. The business outlet Newsis also carried the award in a headline report. [ 1 , 2 ]
According to Yonhap, the evaluation examined dementia management work reflecting the area's high elderly population ratio, its management system for high-risk groups and its strategies for linking with integrated care. The centre was cited in particular for actively promoting early screening of residents aged 75 and over who are at high dementia risk, which raised early detection and registration rates. Its analysis of dementia risk factors, operation of cognitive enhancement programmes and analysis of project effects, used to keep revising the implementation plan, were also recognised, the report said. [ 1 ]
The centre opened in June 2019 and has run locally tailored programmes since, adding a branch in Jinbu-myeon in 2022 to improve access to services, according to Yonhap. The report said the evaluation also took into account the centre's work to identify the programme's limits and improvement measures and to set out a sustainable dementia management strategy. [ 1 ]
Pyeongchang County governor Shim Jae-guk said on Oct. 6 that the county would expand support for vulnerable groups and community integrated management to reduce the care burden on dementia families. The documents do not name the ministry that issued the award. [ 1 ]
Why it matters
The award recognises a county-level dementia programme in an area with a high share of elderly residents, and county officials say the approach will be extended. The documents give no figures on patient numbers or budget, so the practical scale of the programme is not shown.

Confirmed by several sources
Still unclear
- Which ministry issued the award and the full evaluation period details are not specified in the documents. Yonhap refers to a minister award and a 2025–2026 evaluation without naming the ministry, and the second document provides only its headline on this event.
- The second document's article text does not cover the dementia care centre award. Its headline matches the award, but the body text is about a National Assembly audit of the Supreme Court, so it could not be used for details of the event.
