Apple and LG jointly develop smart home devices, presentation set for October 13
In short
Apple has developed a range of smart home devices with LG Electronics, including a video doorbell, a smart door lock, a thermostat and security cameras, according to Bloomberg reports cited by the outlets. The products will be sold under LG's brand but work with Apple's smart home ecosystem, and Apple is expected to present them on 13 October 2026 alongside a new HomePod mini and Apple TV. Apple has developed a range of smart home devices in partnership with LG Electronics, according to Bloomberg reports cited by the outlets covering the news. The products are to be presented on 13 October, Interfax reported, alongside Apple's own smart home hardware. [ 1 , 3 ]
According to 3DNews, the joint line-up includes a smart doorbell, an intercom, a thermostat, a smart door lock, indoor and outdoor security cameras and a camera combined with a floodlight. The devices will carry the LG brand but be fully compatible with Apple's smart home ecosystem, with LG handling both production and after-sales service, the outlet reported. [ 2 ]
Interfax, citing Bloomberg, said the same: Apple and LG developed a doorbell, a thermostat and other accessories compatible with Apple's new smart home hub, along with a smart door lock and several camera models, with LG to manufacture them under its own brand. The arrangement is intended to let Apple expand its smart home ecosystem quickly without carrying the full weight of production and service costs, the wire reported. [ 3 ]
Apple's own devices are expected at the 13 October event. Bloomberg reported earlier that Apple plans to unveil a smart hub in the form of a display about 6 inches across, which can identify the user by voice or face and show personalised content such as contacts, messages and calendar, changes its interface automatically, and is powered by USB without a battery, Interfax reported. On the same day the company wants to present new HomePod mini and Apple TV units with faster processors to support Siri AI models, with unchanged designs but new colours including green and pink for the HomePod mini; a larger HomePod is to be updated later, the wire added. [ 3 ]
The LG products lagged behind Apple's own development, so their release is expected no earlier than several months from now, Interfax and 3DNews reported. 3DNews noted that the timing of the LG devices could not be synchronized with the launch of Apple's own smart home products, and that LG Electronics has registered various devices with the US Federal Communications Commission in recent weeks. [ 2 , 3 ]
3DNews noted that this is not the first such arrangement for Apple, which previously worked with Belkin and Logitech on devices sold under their brands, a scheme that expands the range of compatible products while cutting Apple's own promotion costs and is usually not publicised by the company. [ 2 ]
Why it matters
The arrangement lets Apple widen its smart home ecosystem while LG handles manufacturing and after-sales service, according to the reports. For buyers, it means LG-branded hardware that works with Apple's ecosystem, broadening the choice of compatible devices. The reports rest on Bloomberg sourcing rather than on either company, and no pricing or firm launch dates were given.
