Doosan names CFOs Kim Min-cheol, Park Sang-hyun vice chairmen; Song Yong-jin made COO

Doosan Corp said on October 16 that Kim Min-cheol (김민철), its CEO, president and chief financial officer, had been promoted to vice chairman. Doosan Enerbility said the same day that its CEO, president and CFO Park Sang-hyun (박상현) had been promoted to vice chairman, and that Song Yong-jin (송용진), president and head of its strategy and innovation division, had been named the new chief operating officer. Doosan Enerbility said the changes were made "to respond pre-emptively to the rapidly changing global energy environment and to strengthen future growth engines and business competitiveness," according to Hankook Ilbo. The company said it would raise the competitiveness of core businesses including nuclear power, gas turbines and offshore wind with Song at the centre, and accelerate innovation using AI and digital technology. Chosun Ilbo described the plan as Song leading this work under Park's command. [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 10 , 13 , 16 ]

Kim, a business administration graduate of Sogang University, joined Doosan in 1989. He became a managing director in Doosan Corp's FA team in 2006, a senior managing director for management strategy in 2011, CEO and vice president in 2018, and CEO and president in 2020. Korea Economic Daily gave his age as 62 and said he had led the investment strategy of the group's holding division. Seoul Economic Daily reported that Kim runs Doosan's board in a three-way co-CEO structure with group chairman Park Jeong-won (박정원) and chief business officer Yoo Seung-woo (유승우). Park, 60 according to Korea Economic Daily, graduated in business administration from Yonsei University and, Hankook Ilbo reported, holds a master's degree from Duke University's business school. He was a managing director in the CFP team of Doosan Corp's holding division from 2008, head of financial management at Doosan Infracore in 2013, vice president in the holding division in 2015 and CEO of Doosan Bobcat in 2018, before becoming CEO and president of Doosan Enerbility in 2022. Newsis reported that he will keep the CFO role after his promotion. [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 10 , 11 , 13 , 16 ]

Song is an engineer who joined Doosan Enerbility in 2008 as head of its strategy team and later headed its strategy and innovation division and its wind power business group. Newsis reported that he graduated in metallurgical engineering from Seoul National University and succeeds vice chairman Jung Yeon-in (정연인) as COO. According to Newsis, Jung is expected to keep the CEO post until next year's regular shareholders' meeting and then become an adviser, after which Song is expected to take over his role and be named CEO. Outlets offered their own readings of the changes. Korea Economic Daily said both new vice chairmen are regarded as finance specialists within the group. Bloter said both had played key roles in the group's mergers and acquisitions and financial restructuring, and that the strategic weight of finance chiefs had grown as investment in nuclear, gas turbines and AI expanded. Seoul Economic Daily interpreted the move as a way to keep financial stability while raising technical execution in core businesses. [ 8 , 11 , 14 ]
