Domino's Pizza said on October 8 that it will raise the prices of its pizzas by an average of 4.4% from October 12. Under the adjustment, large (L) pizzas will cost 1,500 won more and medium (M) pizzas 1,000 won more, according to the company's announcement as reported by several outlets. [ 3 , 4 , 5 ]
The company said the increase was due to accumulated cost burdens. Chosun Ilbo reported raw material costs and labour costs among the rising expenses. Domino's said the average rate of 4.4% had been set to minimise the burden on consumers, Yonhap reported. [ 4 , 5 ]
According to the company, its headquarters had absorbed rising costs in order to take part in the government's price-stabilisation stance and minimise the burden on consumers, but growing internal and external uncertainty had increased the burden on both headquarters and franchisees, leaving it no choice but to adjust prices. A Domino's official quoted by Dong-A Ilbo said the company had not changed pizza prices for five years and asked customers for their understanding, adding that it would continue to provide the best products and service. [ 3 , 5 ]
It is the first pizza price increase since 2022. Outlets differ on how to count the gap: Korea Economic Daily and Dong-A Ilbo described it as the first in five years, while Yonhap said four years. Dong-A Ilbo reported that Domino's raised pizza prices twice in 2022, in January and August; Yonhap reported that in August 2022 the company raised large pizza prices by 1,000 won and medium pizza prices by 500 won. Why it matters
The increase passes higher costs on to consumers after the company said its headquarters had absorbed them for several years in line with the government's price-stabilisation stance. Business outlets reported it alongside other food price rises, though the documents do not link the moves.
