Lukoil shares hit six-month high on dividend expectations
In short
Lukoil shares rose to a six-month high on the Moscow Exchange on October 7, which Kommersant and Vedomosti attributed to expectations of large interim dividends after strong first-half results. Kommersant calculated that an expected yield above 9% implies a payout of more than about 509 rubles per share, while Vedomosti cited a Finam estimate of at least 520 rubles. The two outlets gave different dates for the previous high, and Lukoil has not announced the dividend.

Lukoil shares reached a six-month high on the Moscow Exchange on October 7, in trading that Kommersant and Vedomosti attributed to expectations of interim dividends. Kommersant said the shares rose 1.14% to 5,633 rubles at 7:58, the highest level since April 7, 2026, and corrected to 5.66 thousand rubles (+1.62%) by 10:27. Vedomosti reported that during the day the shares approached 5,670.5 rubles (+1.80%) and said the last time quotes reached such values was March 30, 2026. The two outlets thus gave different dates for the previous high. [ 2 , 3 ]
Kommersant said the shares were rising on expectations of dividends for the first half that Lukoil may announce in the near future, with an expected yield above 9%. It calculated that a yield above 9% at a price of about 5.66 thousand rubles implies a dividend of more than roughly 509 rubles per share. The outlet tied this to Lukoil's policy of directing at least 100% of adjusted free cash flow to shareholders, making the cash left after operating and investment spending the key condition for a payout. The company's last dividend, for 2025 results, was 278 rubles per share, totalling 192.46 billion rubles with a yield of 5.33%, Kommersant reported. [ 2 ]
Vedomosti cited broker estimates pointing to an even larger payout. Finam analyst Sergei Kaufman said the estimates assume the company may pay at least 520 rubles per share for the first half on the back of strong free cash flow. Vedomosti also cited Freedom Global lead analyst Natalia Milchakova, who named several growth factors for the stock: an extension by OFAC of a licence to sell foreign assets until October 22 and news of a possible purchase of Lukoil's foreign assets by a consortium of international investors. [ 3 ]
On the foreign asset process, Vedomosti reported that Lukoil signed an agreement with the US investment company Carlyle on January 29 to sell Lukoil International GmbH, the wholly owned subsidiary holding the group's foreign assets. The sale has been stalled for almost ten months at the stage of approval by the US government, the outlet said. It also cited an October 3 New York Times report, which, citing sources, said Russia-US talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine had expanded to include a “multibillion-dollar oil deal” covering Lukoil oil fields, refineries and filling stations worldwide. [ 3 ]
The rally follows first-half results that Vedomosti described as very strong: revenue under IFRS rose to 2.06 trillion rubles (+8%) and net profit to 440.1 billion rubles (+52.5%). Vedomosti reported that Lukoil has already made two dividend payments in 2026, at 675 rubles per share across the two payments. Kaufman said the shares have added more than 35% since late August, leaving about 7% upside to his target price of 6,050 rubles, and that progress in the foreign-asset talks, geopolitics, oil and product market conditions and refining volumes will remain the determining factors for the stock. Why it matters
Lukoil is one of Russia's largest oil producers, and its dividend policy is a reference point for the Russian equity market at a time when its foreign assets are subject to stalled sale talks and reported geopolitical bargaining. A payout above last year's level would confirm the cash-flow strength implied by its first-half results; a cut or delay would be read as a negative signal, Kommersant said.
