Its statements described a tanker carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil and alleged that it tried to cross with US military support after switching off navigation and radar systems. Earlier reports relayed Iranian navy statements about tanker fires on October 15 and 16. The documents do not identify the vessels or establish how those earlier fires relate to the October 17 incidents, and contain no independent confirmation of the Iranian claims.
