Sevastopol will end its QR-code system for fuel purchases on October 16, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev announced. Interfax quoted his message on Max saying gasoline would again be available for unrestricted access to sales when supplies were available. TASS also reported that the system would be abolished from that date. [ 1 , 2 ]
The change does not remove all purchase limits. Interfax reported that fuel sold at the reduced price of 100 rubles per liter would remain subject to volume caps. At TES (ТЭС) filling stations, customers can buy AI-92 gasoline, AI-95 gasoline and diesel with a 30-liter limit. At Atan (Атан) stations, AI-95 sales retain a 20-liter limit. TES also permits fuel to be put in cans, with a 20-liter limit. [ 1 ]
Premium fuel grades are sold without restrictions, according to the governor's account cited by Interfax. RBC similarly reported that the authorities were easing sales rules after several months of restrictions while retaining limits, with conditions varying according to the station chain and gasoline grade. Interfax reported that Sevastopol introduced fuel-sales restrictions on May 22 because of logistical difficulties, followed by restrictions in Crimea on May 29. The city began using QR codes in early June. Sales without the codes resumed at Atan and TES stations on August 4, but the city reinstated QR-code sales on August 11. Under that system, the codes were used to buy non-premium fuel at a reduced price, the agency said. [ 1 ]
Why it matters
Drivers will no longer need a QR code to buy fuel, while supply availability and purchase limits will still constrain some sales. Conditions differ by filling-station chain and fuel grade.
