Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined on October 15 to name countries other than the United States that were interested in buying Russian diesel. Asked by journalists which countries wanted the fuel, he said it was not appropriate to discuss the matter publicly, RIA Novosti reported. TASS and Kommersant also reported his refusal to identify other potential buyers. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
RIA said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had described Russian diesel as being in demand on world markets, with interest from consumers beyond the United States. Kommersant reported Peskov as saying that Russian diesel had begun reaching world markets and that Russia was releasing substantial volumes. He said this would have a positive effect on stabilising oil markets, while cautioning that the supplies could not fully stabilise them. [ 2 , 3 ]
The comments follow a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on October 9. RIA reported that Trump said an agreement on Russian diesel supplies had been reached and that the United States needed the fuel. Kommersant said the agreement concerned both American and world markets. The newspaper also cited the Russian government's estimate that the first deliveries to the United States were possible in two to three weeks. The reports did not identify other prospective customer countries or provide their purchase volumes. [ 2 , 3 ]
