Police in Jangsu, Jeonbuk, are investigating after a man in his 50s was injured by a knife while he and his son, in his 20s, were together, Yonhap, Newsis and Dong-A Ilbo reported on 22 October. The father has said the injury was his own mistake, while police are also investigating the son. Newsis and Dong-A Ilbo cited Jangsu police. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
According to Newsis, a report was received on 21 October at about 8:23 pm saying the person had been hurt by the knife he was using to peel fruit. Dong-A Ilbo put the time at about 8:20 pm. The man, referred to by Newsis only as A, was hurt in the abdomen and elsewhere and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated. Both outlets said his life was not in danger. [ 2 , 3 ]
Newsis quoted a police official as saying: "It is hard to see this as only a simple accident, but the injured father keeps stating that it was an accident caused by his own mistake." The official added that police were investigating the facts with several possibilities open. Dong-A Ilbo reported that the man told police he was stabbed by the knife by mistake while peeling fruit, and quoted a police official as saying it might be a simple accident but that police were investigating the exact circumstances with several possibilities open. [ 2 , 3 ]
On why the son is being investigated, the two outlets give different reasons. Newsis said police judged, because the accident itself was unusual, that it might not have been A's mistake, and so were investigating the son, referred to as B, who lived with him. Dong-A Ilbo said police took into account the location of the wound and the amount of bleeding and considered that it might not be a simple accident. [ 2 , 3 ]
The son has a disability. Newsis said that for this reason no police questioning of him has taken place. Dong-A Ilbo said police are having difficulty obtaining a statement from him and that he has been booked on a charge of injury to a lineal ascendant. Newsis did not mention a booking. [ 2 , 3 ]
Why it matters
