Porsche plans to cut roughly 40% of its managerial and leadership positions in the medium term as part of a new restructuring strategy, according to TASS, RBC, Vedomosti and Kommersant. TASS described the plan as an anti-crisis strategy; RBC said chief executive Michael Leiters presented a rescue strategy for the company, citing Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Kommersant said the programme is called Sportwagenschmiede'35 and is aimed at improving business efficiency and strengthening the sports-car line. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The cuts extend beyond management. Vedomosti reported that about 9,000 jobs are to go under a package agreed with employee representatives, with total headcount in direct and indirect units to fall by 25% in the medium term against a strategic target of 30%, while core production sites and core employment are to be preserved until 2035. Kommersant put the overall headcount reduction at 25–30%. [ 3 , 4 ]
On costs, Vedomosti reported that personnel costs in production are to fall by up to 30%, sales and distribution expenses by 20%, direct material costs for new projects by about 10% against previous plans and personnel costs overall by about 10%. Kommersant gave the same production and distribution figures and added a planned 20% cut in the cost of developing new models. [ 3 , 4 ]
Product plans were detailed by Kommersant: the focus shifts from sales volume to product value, quality and exclusivity, with the average price of expensive models to rise about 20%, revenue from the Sonderwunsch special-order programme to increase sixfold, the number of model variants to fall about 20% and the share of D- and E-segment models to grow 45%. Leiters said the share of cars with combustion engines and hybrids will remain around 67% despite the planned 2035 ban on such vehicles, and that Porsche will develop three non-electric models. [ 4 ]
Bonuses are to be tied more closely to individual results. Vedomosti reported that bonuses and special payments will depend more on personal contribution to the economic result, and Kommersant, citing Leiters, said the share of top management's annual bonus tied to individual performance will rise from 10% to 30%. Vedomosti also reported plans for an employee share programme from 2028. [ 3 , 4 ]
Vedomosti reported that Porsche has already sold its stakes in Rimac and Bugatti Rimac, signed an agreement to sell its consulting subsidiary MHP and plans to end development and production at Cellforce Group, Porsche eBike Performance and Cetitec. No document in the set names the locations affected or a schedule beyond the medium term. [ 3 ]
Por qué importa
The measures at one of Germany's best-known carmakers affect a large number of jobs and are framed by the outlets as a rescue effort, making them a signal for the wider German and European auto industry. Product decisions such as continued emphasis on combustion-engine models are relevant beyond Germany because they shape supply chains and the pace of electrification.
