The organising committee of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games said on 21 October that three national anthems were played in error on 19 October. The committee's acting chair, Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa, disclosed the errors at his regular press conference and apologised, according to Jiji Press, Asahi Shimbun and Nikkei. [ 4 , 7 , 9 , 11 ]
At the para taekwondo medal ceremonies, the Iranian anthem was played for both the men's winner from Taiwan and the women's winner from Mongolia. Nippon TV identified the events as the men's 58kg and women's 52kg classes. For the men's event, Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the Iranian anthem was played to the end. For the women's event, it was stopped partway and the Mongolian anthem played. Asahi said the taekwondo ceremonies were at the Mizuho Park gymnasium in Nagoya. [ 2 , 7 , 9 , 12 ]
The third error came before the women's sitting volleyball match between China and Iran at the Okazaki Central Park general gymnasium in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture. South Korea's anthem was played for about five seconds instead of China's. Asahi reported that the team pointed out the mistake and China's anthem was then played. [ 4 , 9 , 12 ]
Asahi reported that the Taiwan side was formally sent a letter of apology on 20 October and that the ceremony would be held again on 21 October. Yomiuri said the committee apologised after a protest from Taiwan, while TBS said the delegation of Chinese Taipei had pointed out the error and that the ceremony would be redone on the evening of 21 October. [ 2 , 9 , 15 ]
The committee said the cause was a setting error in the music playback software. Asahi reported that a contractor's staff member misconfigured the software and checking was insufficient, while Mainichi cited a software setting defect and insufficient checking of audio sources. Nippon TV reported the committee saying that this time it was equipment setting mistakes. The committee said it would thoroughly review the software settings and require mutual checks, and Nippon TV reported it would require multiple people to confirm before playback. [ 4 , 9 , 12 ]
Several outlets noted that a similar error occurred at the Asian Games, which closed on 4 October, when North Korea's anthem was played before a men's hockey match between South Korea and Bangladesh. Nippon TV reported that measures taken afterwards included visual checks of titles. Hirosawa was quoted by TBS as saying operations were supposed to have been reviewed after the Asian Games but the error had happened again, which he called not good. Mainichi quoted him as saying he wanted to review operations again over the next several days to prevent a repeat. [ 2 , 4 , 7 , 12 , 15 ]
Por qué importa
The documents report that the mistakes repeated an error from the Asian Games despite a review of procedures, and the mayor said a fresh check of operations is needed. The committee has promised more checks before music is played.
