Brisbane 2032 organisers officially unveiled the Olympic and Paralympic emblems on the evening of October 5 at an event on a riverside stage at South Bank in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, China News Service reported. The two emblems were presented after a staged rollout in which athletes revealed parts of the design in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast before the complete version appeared in Brisbane. [ 1 ]

Both emblems are built around Australian cockatoos. The Olympic emblem takes a cockatoo as its model and the Paralympic emblem a sulphur-crested cockatoo, according to China News Service; the birds’ crests combine the outline of Queensland with Olympic and Paralympic flame imagery, which the organisers say conveys unity, hope and inspiration. The crest feathers are arranged in groups of three and two, echoing the year 2032. Jiemian’s report, credited to CCTV News, added that cockatoos carry significance in Australian Aboriginal culture as messengers linking people to land, legend and ceremony, and that the design pairs the birds with “Brisbane 2032” in a custom typeface, the Olympic rings and the Paralympic symbol. Brisbane Organising Committee President Andrew Liveris said the emblems combine the host region’s natural environment and distinctive character with the symbols of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and would help the world learn more about Brisbane, Queensland and Australia, according to China News Service. Jiemian reported Liveris saying the emblems were a window on the event’s character and an invitation for the world to learn about, visit, invest in and take part in the Games, and calling the reveal a proud moment in preparations. Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, chair of the IOC’s Brisbane 2032 coordination commission, said at the launch that the emblem puts Brisbane and Queensland into the century-long history of Olympic imagery and marks Australia’s third appearance on the Olympic stage, after Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000. The full design had surfaced before the ceremony. China News Service, citing ABC, reported that a staff error caused the organising committee’s official YouTube channel to publish the complete design on the evening of October 2, after which the images were deleted. [ 1 ]

2032 will be Australia’s third Summer Olympics and second in the country since Sydney, China News Service noted. Jiemian reported that the organising committee says the Brisbane Olympic Games will run from July 23 to August 8, 2032, and the Paralympic Games from August 24 to September 5, 2032, with mascots to be revealed closer to the event. Почему это важно

The emblems are the first major visual identity for the 2032 Games, which will be Australia’s third Summer Olympics, and organisers say they are meant to draw attention to Brisbane and Queensland ahead of the event. Planning continues, with mascots to be revealed closer to the Games. The pre-launch leak gave the design an early public outing before the official ceremony.
