Версия 3: New details were added: Hankook Ilbo reported the payload breaks down into five microsatellite cluster satellites and 10 cube satellites and gave a provisional launch time of 12:25, while Chosun Ilbo reported that a private company will operate most of the launch control consoles for the first time.

Коротко

South Korea's Nuri rocket was moved to the launch pad at the Naro Space Center in Goheung on Oct. 6 and erected upright, with the space agency and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute saying the work was completed at 10:35 a.m. The launch is provisionally set for Oct. 7 between 12:23 and 13:23, with Hankook Ilbo reporting a provisional time of 12:25 and the exact time to be decided that morning. The rocket will carry 15 satellites, the most of any Nuri flight so far.

Nuri was moved to the launch pad at the Naro Space Center in Goheung and erected upright on Oct. 6, with the Korea AeroSpace Administration and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute saying the rocket was raised to 90 degrees and secured at 10:35 a.m. Kyunghyang Shinmun reported the erection work took about three hours. [ 4 , 5 , 9 ]

The rocket left the assembly building at 6 a.m. on a dedicated low-vibration transporter and arrived at the launch pad at 7:30 a.m., the agencies said. Dong-A Ilbo reported the distance from the assembly building to the launch pad as about 1.8 km and said the transporter takes more than an hour to cover it, while Electronic Times and Hankook Ilbo put the trip at about one hour and 30 minutes. Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that pad installation was to finish at around 6:45 p.m., after which the rocket would be connected by cable to the umbilical tower and prepared for power and propellant loading. [ 2 , 4 , 5 , 9 ]

Hankook Ilbo reported the payload consists of five microsatellite cluster satellites and 10 cube satellites, 15 in all, the most carried on any Nuri flight. Yonhap said the mission tests the rocket's transport capacity, and Hankook Ilbo noted that separating and releasing the 15 satellites into their designated sequence and orbits is also a key task. Neither outlet identified the satellites or their operators. [ 6 , 9 ]

The official launch window is Oct. 7 from 12:23 to 13:23 local time, with Hankook Ilbo reporting a provisional time of 12:25. Kyunghyang Shinmun, Electronic Times and Hankook Ilbo reported the exact time will be decided at a launch management committee meeting on the morning of Oct. 7 — at 8 a.m., according to Hankook Ilbo — after a review of technical readiness, weather, the space environment and the risk of collision with space objects. Electronic Times reported that a launch preparation committee met at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 and approved moving the rocket to the pad. [ 2 , 4 , 5 , 9 ]

Chosun Ilbo reported that a private company will take on launch control for the first time, with Hanwha Aerospace operating most of the consoles in the launch control centre, describing the move as a further step in handing the government-developed rocket to a private-sector-led space transport system. Yonhap reported Hanwha Aerospace oversaw production of the rocket as system integration company, as it did for the fourth launch. [ 1 , 8 ]

Yonhap reported that assembly teams worked through the weekend before the Chuseok holiday to join the first and second stages, mount the satellites on the third stage and close the payload fairing, and that the third stage carrying the satellites was joined to the assembled first and second stages on Sept. 29 before the inspection window was sealed. Assembly and final checks were completed with no problems reported that would affect the launch schedule, according to Yonhap, Dong-A Ilbo and Kyunghyang Shinmun. [ 1 , 2 , 4 ]

Почему это важно

The fifth Nuri flight is the next launch of South Korea's domestically developed orbital rocket, and Yonhap described it as a test of the vehicle's transport capacity given the 15 satellites aboard. Chosun Ilbo reported the flight also advances the handover of the government-developed rocket toward a private-sector-led launch system. The documents do not state an expected outcome for the satellites.

Пока неясно

  • Which satellites Nuri will carry and who operates them. Hankook Ilbo breaks the payload down as five microsatellite cluster satellites and 10 cube satellites, making 15, but no document identifies the satellites or their operators.
  • How long the transporter took to cover the distance from the assembly building to the launch pad. Electronic Times and Hankook Ilbo said about one hour and 30 minutes, while Dong-A Ilbo said the trip of about 1.8 km takes more than an hour; the documents do not reconcile the figures.
  • The extent of the private company's role in launch control. Chosun Ilbo reported Hanwha Aerospace will operate most of the consoles in the launch control centre, but no other document describes this, and no document names which consoles or functions it covers.
  • The exact administrative name of the launch site. Yonhap refers to the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do, while Dong-A Ilbo, Kyunghyang Shinmun, Newsis and Hankook Ilbo write it as Goheung in Gwangju; the documents give no explanation for the difference.
