Nagano prefectural police on Oct 6 re-arrested five men who had already been arrested over a robbery in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture, this time on suspicion of fraud and drug offences, according to Nippon TV News and Sankei Shimbun. A 24-year-old woman was newly arrested on a drug charge, Nippon TV News reported. [ 1 , 2 ]

The robbery took place in August at an office and residence in Kamitokuma, Chikuma City, where a woman in her 60s was threatened with what Nippon TV News described as a model gun and TBS NEWS DIG described as a gun-like object, and about 160,000 yen in cash was taken. The five men were arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering and robbery and were sent to prosecutors, Nippon TV News said. [ 1 , 3 ]

According to Nippon TV News, two men aged 47 and 73 are suspected of conspiring with a 25-year-old man from Hiroshima who has already been arrested on fraud charges to pose as police officers, defraud a man in his 70s living in Aichi Prefecture of 1.1 kilograms of gold worth about 26 million yen at its purchase price, and disguise the proceeds as legitimate income. Sankei Shimbun reported the same gold amount and value and named the 47-year-old as Hirose Masato, an unemployed man from Kasamatsu-cho, Gifu Prefecture, saying the call was made to a man in his 70s in Ichinomiya City. [ 1 , 2 ]

The two outlets differ on when the alleged fraud took place: Nippon TV News said mid-August, while Sankei Shimbun said mid-September. [ 1 , 2 ]

Three men aged 20 to 24 were re-arrested on suspicion of using cocaine and ketamine in Chiba Prefecture and elsewhere in September, and the newly arrested 24-year-old woman had been moving with them, Nippon TV News said. Sankei Shimbun named her as Narushima Tei, 24, a company employee from Midori-ku, Chiba City, and described the other three as suspected of using cocaine and ketamine. Nippon TV News reported that her arrest concerned alleged drug use at a hotel where a man in his 20s was taken into custody. [ 1 , 2 , 5 ]

Nippon TV News said the Nagano District Public Prosecutors Office released the five men with prosecution suspended on Oct 6, and that police did not disclose whether the six admit or deny the allegations. The men are being investigated as members of an anonymous and mobile crime group, known in Japanese as “tokuryu,” Sankei Shimbun and Nippon TV News said. Police are looking into the woman’s relationship with the men and any other offences, the reports said. [ 1 , 2 ]

Почему это важно

The case centres on suspects police describe as members of an anonymous and mobile crime group, “tokuryu,” a form of loosely organised crime recruitment that Japanese police have been tracking. Because the men were released without prosecution in the robbery case the same day they were re-arrested on other allegations, the investigation is continuing on several fronts. The documents give no further basis for wider consequences.
