Iran's IRGC says US Navy pulled back 1,000 km from Iranian coast

🇷🇺 Russia 03:34 War & conflict Business Official updated 7 d ago first reported by Интерфакс

In short

A representative of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, said Iranian forces forced US Navy ships to withdraw about 1,000 km from Iran's coast, and that no US vessel remains in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman or the northern Indian Ocean. Interfax noted the statement came as a US Navy blockade of Iranian ports continues, with CENTCOM reporting 125 commercial vessels intercepted since July. TASS reported Fadavi also said the United States failed to achieve any of its objectives in the war.

A representative of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, said Iranian forces had forced US Navy ships to withdraw roughly 1,000 km from Iran's coast. “The Americans fled and withdrew more than 1,000 km from our borders. This was not their choice, it happened thanks to the power of the Islamic Republic and the strength of the IRGC ground forces,” Interfax quoted Fadavi as saying in an interview with the television channel Press TV. TASS also reported the claim. [ 1 , 2 ]

Fadavi said that for the first time no US ship remained in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman or even the northern part of the Indian Ocean, and that US warships were “100% vulnerable” to missile attacks from the IRGC, according to Interfax. [ 1 ]

Interfax noted that the statement came against the backdrop of a continuing strict naval blockade of Iranian ports by the US Navy. Last week, the US Central Command said it had intercepted 125 commercial vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports since July, in order to ensure strict compliance with the blockade, Interfax reported. [ 1 ]

TASS reported that Fadavi also said the United States had failed to achieve any of the objectives it set in the war. Interfax's account does not mention a war or objectives. [ 1 , 2 ]

Both reports rest on the account of the Iranian military official; neither document cites confirmation from the United States of the withdrawal or of the number and position of US vessels in the region. [ 1 , 2 ]

Why it matters

The remarks describe a direct military standoff between Iran and the United States at a time when Washington is enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports, so any change in US naval posture in the Gulf and surrounding waters is closely watched. The claim is attributed to an Iranian military official and, as reported in these documents, has not been confirmed by the United States, leaving the actual disposition of US forces unresolved. Both outlets are tier-1 national media, so the claim reached a wide Russian audience.
