The head of Krasnodar, Yevgeny Naumov, resigned early, with the decision taken at a session of the city Duma on 5 October, according to the Krasnodar Krai administration's press service, cited by Interfax. Interfax said the temporary performance of the duties of city head was assigned to the city's first deputy head, and TASS named that official as Dmitry Vasilyev. [ 1 , 3 ]
Naumov announced the decision himself. RBC reported that he wrote about leaving the post in his channel in Max, while Kommersant reported that he addressed residents in his Telegram channel, thanking them for their support and for what he called fair criticism. Kommersant said he did not explain the reasons for the early resignation, saying only that “life is movement and one must move on”, and wishing residents health, a peaceful sky and the setting of big goals. [ 4 , 5 ]
Kommersant reported that on the morning of 5 October Naumov gathered city hall staff and said goodbye to them, and that after this the Telegram channel of city Duma deputy Alexander Safronov carried information that deputies had accepted the mayor's resignation. [ 5 ]
Naumov had headed the Krasnodar administration since 9 November 2022, Interfax reported. Before that, from October 2021, he served as vice-governor of Krasnodar Krai, and earlier held the posts of vice-mayor of Krasnodar and deputy head of the krai for construction, according to Kommersant, which said his previous career was in municipal and state service. Neither the krai administration's statement cited by Interfax nor the other reports named a permanent successor or set a date for filling the post. [ 1 , 3 , 4 ]
Why it matters
The early exit of the head of one of southern Russia's largest cities leaves Krasnodar under an acting administration until a permanent successor is decided. Naumov gave no reason for leaving, so the political direction of the city remains undefined in the documents. The change is a routine municipal leadership turnover as reported by state and business outlets, with no stated effect on regional policy.
