Russia's defence ministry said its forces carried out a massed overnight strike on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, including enterprises it says are used to produce Flamingo cruise missiles and medium- and long-range drones. The strikes were reported by the official agencies RIA Novosti and TASS and by the business outlet Vedomosti, all citing the defence ministry. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

According to the ministry, the enterprises were used in the interests of the company Fire Point for the production and storage of Flamingo missiles and large and medium-range drones. It said the targets were located in Kyiv and the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Kharkiv regions. Vedomosti reported that the attack was carried out with high-precision ground-, sea- and air-launched weapons as well as drones. [ 1 , 3 ]

TASS, citing the defence ministry, named several specific sites: the Yuzhmash plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region; a mechanical plant in Lozova in the Kharkiv region; and TD Plastmass-Pryluky in Pryluky. It also reported a strike on the Smart Munitions enterprise, which it said assembled Flamingo missiles and FP-9 operational-tactical missiles as well as shell components, and on a workshop of the Group of Industrial Enterprises Alexandria, which it said produced components for drones. [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]

Beyond the missile and drone plants, the ministry said Russian forces struck port and ship-repair infrastructure in the Odesa region and vessels it said were used in the interests of Ukraine's armed forces. Vedomosti added that a day earlier Russian forces hit a tanker in the port of Yuzhne in the Odesa region that it said was delivering fuel and lubricants for Ukraine's military, and struck trucks near the settlement of Maiaky carrying military cargo. On 5 October, it said, Russian forces hit port infrastructure, a dry cargo ship carrying supplies for Ukraine's armed forces, the Kochetok substation in the Kharkiv region, the port point of Vylkove and fuel storage in the port of Chornomorsk. [ 2 , 3 ]

The documents contain no account from Ukraine's government or military and no independent confirmation. No damage assessments, casualty figures or production losses at any of the named facilities are given, and the extent to which each listed site was hit is stated only by the Russian defence ministry. [ 1 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ]

Why it matters

The strikes, if as described, would target production of a Ukrainian cruise missile and long-range drones, which could affect Ukraine's ability to strike at distance. All the accounts come from Russian official outlets and the defence ministry, so the reported scope and results cannot be checked against the documents available. The reported hits on Odesa port and ship-repair facilities point to continued pressure on Ukraine's maritime logistics.
