Five children from a rehabilitation centre in Balashikha were hospitalised on October 8 with a preliminary diagnosis of rotavirus infection, RIA Novosti reported, citing Olga Sadilova (Ольга Садилова), director of the Balashikhinsky comprehensive centre for social services and rehabilitation. "Following the examination, five children were hospitalised in the infectious diseases ward... The preliminary diagnosis is rotavirus infection," Sadilova told the agency. TASS also reported the hospitalisation of five children from the centre with rotavirus infection. [ 1 , 2 , 4 ]
The condition of the hospitalised children is assessed as satisfactory, according to RIA Novosti and Vedomosti. Vedomosti described the children as residents of the centre. [ 3 , 4 ]
According to Vedomosti, the centre is carrying out anti-epidemic measures to prevent the infection spreading among people who had contact with the children. Family members were given medical masks and antiseptics and were briefed on personal hygiene rules. The Moscow region health ministry said the situation is under the control of medical workers and that the risk of the infection spreading among contacts has been minimised thanks to timely measures.
