Actor Jung Woo-sung resigned as an internal director of Artist Company on October 2, roughly six months before the scheduled end of his term, Korean outlets reported. Jung and Lee Jung-jae were appointed internal directors on March 29, 2024, with terms due to expire on March 28, 2027, Hankook Ilbo reported. Jung stepped down after about two years and six months. Seoul Shinmun said the agency had not provided a specific position on the resignation. Chosun Ilbo and Korea Economic Daily also reported that the reasons for the early departure were not known. [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]
The resignation altered the reporting of Jung's shares. Chosun Ilbo said his special relationship with the largest shareholder ended because of his departure from the director position. His holdings, previously reported together with Lee's, are now reported separately under his own name. Lee's personal holdings remain unchanged at 4,225,882 shares, or 27.10%, according to Chosun Ilbo and Korea Economic Daily. [ 3 , 4 ]
Jung continues to be an actor affiliated with Artist Company, the reports said. Hankook Ilbo described the company as a management agency that has expanded from actor management into film and television production. The outlets disagree on its founding year: Newsis, Hankook Ilbo and Seoul Shinmun say Jung and Lee jointly founded it in 2016, while Chosun Ilbo gives 2012. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]
Why it matters
The resignation changes how Jung's shares are reported: they are now disclosed separately in his name rather than combined with Lee Jung-jae's holdings. The reasons for his resignation have not been explained in the reports.
