A man has been detained in Nizhny Novgorod on suspicion of murdering three women, after traffic police stopped a truck for a check, according to the Interior Ministry and investigators. Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said officers stopped a freight vehicle and found suitcases, backpacks, bags and packages in its body; the driver said they were the personal belongings of his passenger, who grew nervous, ran from the officers and was detained. Volk said the detainee told officers he had killed three women: his partner and two of her relatives. TASS reported the victims were the suspect's partner, her mother and her daughter. Interfax, citing Volk, said the partner's body was hidden in the basement of a private house, while the bodies of the two relatives had been dismembered and he had tried to take them away. The regional Investigative Committee said a resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region had been charged with triple murder and with desertion, Interfax reported. According to the investigation, the accused had earlier left his military unit without authorization and was hiding from law enforcement in the region. During an argument he struck his partner on the head with a crowbar and she died, Interfax said. He then travelled to Nizhny Novgorod to the victim's mother and daughter and told them about the killing; when they planned to go to the police, he killed both, dismembered their bodies and rented a “Gazelle” truck to remove the remains, the report said.
