One worker injured in rock collapse at Vostochny mine in Russia's Primorye
Version 2: New updates add the injured worker's reported condition — bruises, according to RIA Novosti — and a separate check opened by the Investigative Committee, on top of the earlier prosecutor's inspection.
In short
A rock collapse at the Vostochny mine in Primorsky Krai injured one worker and caused no deaths. Twenty-two people were in the shaft at the time; rescuers brought the injured miner to the surface, and TASS reported the workers left the shaft on their own and the mine was operating normally. The regional prosecutor's office launched an inspection into safety and labour rights, and the Investigative Committee later said it had begun its own check.

A rock collapse occurred at the Vostochny mine in Primorsky Krai, the regional prosecutor's office said, according to Interfax. One worker was injured and there were no fatalities, the regional emergency services said, as reported by Kommersant and Vedomosti. Interfax said the collapse took place in the evening of 6 October; its report was published at 15:54 local time. Vedomosti reported the mine is located in the village of Vostok in Krasnoarmeysky district. [ 3 , 7 , 8 ]
Twenty-two people were in the shaft at the time, TASS and the regional emergencies ministry said. Rescuers from the Russian emergencies ministry brought the injured miner to the surface and handed him to ambulance medics, Interfax and RIA Novosti reported. Kommersant, citing RIA Novosti and the emergencies ministry, said all workers had been brought out of the mine. TASS later reported that the workers left the shaft on their own and that the mine was operating normally after the collapse. [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]
The Primorye prosecutor's office opened an inspection, saying it would check compliance with safety requirements during the works and workers' labour rights, Interfax, TASS and Kommersant reported. TASS reported the inspection began after the collapse. [ 3 , 5 , 8 ]
On the following morning, RIA Novosti and RBC reported that the Investigative Committee had also begun a check after the collapse. RBC, citing the regional Investigative Committee, said law enforcement officers organised the check; the documents did not say what it covers. [ 13 , 14 ]
On the injured worker's condition, TASS reported that the Primorye health ministry had commented on it, and RIA Novosti said the man escaped with bruises. The earlier RIA Novosti report on his condition carried only a headline and no details. No document named the worker or the company operating the mine. [ 6 , 11 , 12 ]
Vedomosti noted that a rock collapse also occurred on 3 October at the Cheremukhovskaya mine near Severouralsk in Sverdlovsk region, where one person died and 98 miners were underground; the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case there over violation of industrial safety requirements causing death by negligence. No document linked the two events beyond the timing. [ 7 ]
Why it matters
The collapse drew the attention of two separate state investigative bodies — the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee — whose findings could lead to enforcement action over safety practices at the mine. The event is a reminder of risks in Russia's underground mining sector, with regional emergency services and officials controlling the response. The mine itself was reported to be operating normally, limiting the immediate disruption.
