Hyundai Motor announced the prices and main specifications of the fifth-generation 'The all-new Tucson' on 21 October and began taking contracts the same day. The model comes with a 1.6 turbo gasoline or 1.6 turbo hybrid powertrain in four trims: H-Pick, Exclusive, Inspiration and XRT, which targets outdoor use. Gasoline prices are 31.4 million won for H-Pick, 35.3 million for Exclusive, 36.8 million for XRT and 37.9 million for Inspiration. Length is up 60 mm, width 40 mm and wheelbase 30 mm. The rear door opening angle widens from 73 to 83 degrees and trunk capacity is 645 litres. The share of ultra-high-strength steel rises to 58%. The gasoline model gives 193 PS and 27.0 kgf·m, with an 8-speed automatic replacing the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Standard equipment starting from H-Pick includes Pleos Connect with an app market, nine airbags including a front-row centre side airbag, pedal misapplication assist, highway driving assist and a surround view monitor. Outlets differed on the price change. Bloter and Dong-A Ilbo said the entry price rose 2.96 million won for gasoline and 2.97 million won for the hybrid because the old Modern trim was dropped, and Bloter said options such as ventilated seats or the 17-inch screen cost extra on H-Pick. Dong-A Ilbo said the new H-Pick is 610,000 won cheaper than the old gasoline H-Pick, while Bloter and Dong-A Ilbo gave different figures for the old hybrid H-Pick. Hyundai is running a draw among October contract customers for department store vouchers, a MacBook and fuel vouchers, plus an advertising campaign titled 'The Empowered, TUCSON'. Yonhap said Hyundai expects the Tucson, first launched in 2004, to pass 11 million cumulative global sales by the end of the year.
