Yoon Hu, the son of singer Yoon Min-soo, said his mother still does not favour his decision to pursue a singing career. Newsis, Chosun Ilbo and Hankook Ilbo reported the remarks on 22 October, citing a video recently posted on the YouTube channel Neolive Music (네오라이브 뮤직) under the title 'If I can't surpass my father, I may go back to school'. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
In the video Yoon said he had attended school abroad for two years before taking a leave of absence and starting to sing, and that he felt he was working hard. Hankook Ilbo quoted him introducing himself as 21 years old. He began his singing career by releasing a remake of Sung Si-kyung's 'Joheultende (좋을텐데)' in September, according to the three outlets. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Yoon said he loved singing until age 9, when his mother told him that if he did not surpass his father's fame in music he could only live as his father's son. He said he gave up his dream then. At 17, he said, he had a chance to sing in front of his father, who said he seemed to have talent. He released a track and returned to music. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Asked about his mother's view now, Yoon said she still does not much like it. He said he is an adult and she does not interfere greatly, but she does not seem keen, and he said he is sorry. Newsis and Hankook Ilbo added that he said he has no regrets, calling it a fairly wise choice and saying he currently likes music. [ 1 , 3 ]
Hankook Ilbo reported further details. Yoon said his plans are unclear and he has not decided, and that he has no specific goal this year beyond practising steadily every day. He said he intends to graduate, with two more years of study needed. He set the leave at one year, with about 10 months left, and said he could extend it or return. [ 3 ]
Chosun Ilbo, in an OSEN report, said Yoon also described changing his major several times at university: he started with journalism-related writing and reporting, lost interest in it, and moved to directing, which he found enjoyable and for which he said a professor praised him. [ 2 ]
All three outlets said Yoon was popular for appearing on the MBC programme 'Dad! Where Are We Going? (아빠! 어디가?)'; Chosun Ilbo gave the year as 2013 and said he appeared with his father. Newsis and Chosun Ilbo said he took part in the dating programme 'Nae Saekki-ui Yeonae 2 (내 새끼의 연애2)', and Newsis and Hankook Ilbo said he studies business administration at the University of North Carolina in the US.
