LG Innotek (LG이노텍) said on 22 October that it had taken part in GTC Berlin, held in Berlin, Germany, on 20 October local time, and unveiled a line-up of sensing solutions using Nvidia's latest Holoscan Sensor Bridge (HSB) technology. Yonhap described the solutions as aimed at physical artificial intelligence (AI) and robots. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The products shown include a 3-megapixel (MP) camera module and a multimodal vision system (MVS) that combines various cameras and sensors. Asia Economy called these the main products presented. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The documents describe HSB as an Nvidia technology that sends data collected by sensors straight to an AI computer without passing through the central processing unit (CPU). Yonhap and ZDNet Korea said this works like a data highway and lets physical AI such as autonomous vehicles and robots process information and make decisions faster. Asia Economy and ZDNet Korea said the industry regards HSB as a key technology for the future physical AI ecosystem. ZDNet Korea described GTC as Nvidia's yearly developer and business strategy conference. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
An LG Innotek official said the cooperation again showed the company's optical design skills and its combined sensing technology covering cameras, LiDAR and radar. The official said it could help the company widen its contact with global physical AI firms that use Nvidia's platform and widen its chances to supply HSB-based camera and sensing solutions. LG Innotek president Moon Hyuk-soo (문혁수) said the cooperation was a good chance to spread the company's sensing solutions to the global market and that it aims to take the physical AI solutions market quickly as a total solution provider. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The two companies plan to expand cooperation on vision sensing for humanoid robots and on robot hands. They also plan to develop sensing solutions that can connect to Nvidia's next-generation platform and show them at CES and GTC next year. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Asia Economy and ZDNet Korea gave background on LG Innotek's other work. In autonomous driving, it formed a strategic partnership with the U.S. LiDAR company Aeva last year, and this year began cooperation on joint development of autonomous driving solutions with the U.S. software company Applied Intuition and Kakao Mobility (카카오모빌리티). In robotics, the two outlets said it is developing robot parts with Boston Dynamics, and ZDNet Korea added that it has started mass production of camera modules for a North American robotics customer.
