The Digital Asset Exchange Joint Council (DAXA, 디지털자산거래소 공동협의체) said on 22 October that it held a fraud prevention class on virtual-asset-linked financial investment fraud on 13 October at the Marine Corps Command. About 100 Marine Corps service members attended, according to Asia Economy and Newsis. Yonhap's notice gave the number as 100 or so. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Both Asia Economy and Newsis said the class was the third DAXA education session for military personnel. The earlier ones were held in August 2024 at the Capital Defense Command military police unit and in December of the same year at units under the Capital Defense Command. Newsis described the series as customised education for service members. [ 1 , 2 ]
DAXA advisory committee member Jo Jae-woo (조재우) gave the lecture. According to both outlets, he covered the basic concepts of blockchain and virtual assets, the main types of virtual-asset-linked investment fraud, real cases and investment methods. Newsis added that the class focused on risk factors service members may meet when investing, on identifying suspicious investment offers and on practical ways to respond to prevent losses. It listed illegal 'leading rooms', impersonation and romance scams as the fraud types introduced. [ 1 , 2 ]
A DAXA official said that higher service member pay and wider mobile phone use during service have made financial investment easier to reach, so the need for education on fraud that abuses virtual assets is growing. The official said the class was meant to help service members build sound investment judgment through a correct understanding of virtual assets. Newsis gave the same reasoning in its own account of why DAXA arranged the class. [ 1 , 2 ]
DAXA standing vice chairman Kim Jae-jin (김재진) said that, as young service members take part more in virtual-asset investment, prevention education that takes account of their investment traits and service environment is essential. He said DAXA will keep expanding customised education that considers the characteristics of different groups, and will keep working to build a sound environment for virtual-asset use and to protect users. [ 1 , 2 ]
Asia Economy also reported that DAXA plans to hold a madangguk (마당극) performance on preventing virtual-asset-linked financial investment fraud. It is to be part of a financial education drive for older people that the Financial Supervisory Service and the financial sector are running together for two months from October. The other outlets did not mention the performance. [ 1 ]
