Cosmax says it gave 10 oral presentations at IFSCC, most among participating firms
Version 2: A third outlet, Maeil Business, added the conference venue, individual research titles, the participation of overseas research units and a claim about R&D spending, and also named the study selected for the applied research top 10, which had previously rested on one outlet.
In short
Cosmax, a South Korean cosmetics original design manufacturer, said it presented 32 research results — 10 oral and 22 poster presentations — at the 36th IFSCC conference held in Perth, Australia, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1. The company said the 10 oral presentations doubled last year's five and were the most among participating companies, and its microbiome live-bacteria encapsulation platform study was named to the conference's applied research Top 10. Cosmax said it has presented 105 research results at IFSCC since first taking part in 2014.

Cosmax, a South Korean cosmetics original design manufacturer, said it presented 32 research results — 10 oral presentations and 22 posters — at the 36th International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) conference held in Perth, Australia, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, according to Yonhap, Asia Economy and Maeil Business. Maeil Business reported the venue as the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The company said its 10 oral presentations were double the five it gave last year and the highest number among participating companies. It also said its microbiome live-bacteria encapsulation platform study was selected for this year's Top 10 in applied research — an identification made by Asia Economy and Maeil Business — while Yonhap reported the Top 10 selection without naming the research. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Cosmax said the presentations covered basic skin care research, makeup, sun care, hair care and fragrance. It gave three presentations on ultraviolet protection, including a rheology and holography analysis of inorganic sunscreen efficacy, a D-phase emulsion solution using naturally derived emulsifiers for higher SPF and better feel, and a cellulose-based multifunctional film for UV blocking, colour control and wrinkle improvement, Maeil Business reported. In biotechnology it presented a bio-derived fermented lipid lamellar liquid crystal system and an Antarctic microbiome clinical study, and in hair care an AI-based alopecia areata prediction model and a global scalp lipidome analysis, according to Maeil Business and Asia Economy. Makeup research covered a temperature-responsive thixotropy study on foundation durability in hot climates, and fragrance research a reservoir-mediated release study for scent longevity, Maeil Business reported. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Overseas units also took part: two researchers from Cosmax China gave oral presentations, and the Cosmax Indonesia R&I centre presented six posters on skin care, makeup and materials, according to Asia Economy and Maeil Business. [ 2 , 3 ]
Cosmax said it has presented 105 research results at IFSCC since first taking part in 2014 and that it won the conference's main award last year, the first time for a domestic cosmetics company. Asia Economy and Maeil Business described the IFSCC as a global academic conference sometimes called the “cosmetics Olympics” and said oral presentation slots go only to studies that pass the society's review, with awards for fundamental and applied research. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The company said it operates 10 R&I centres in Korea, China, the United States, Italy, Indonesia and Thailand, employing about 1,300 researchers at home and abroad. Maeil Business reported that Cosmax reinvests 5% of annual revenue in research and development, a figure the other outlets did not mention. A Cosmax official said the company had followed last year's main award with the most oral presentations of any company this year and would continue to introduce innovative products based on its technology, according to all three reports. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Why it matters
The announcement points to research and development as a competitive ground for Korean cosmetics manufacturers that supply global brands, with Cosmax positioning its output against other international participants at a research conference. The company says it operates 10 R&I centres and employs about 1,300 researchers at home and abroad, which indicates how much of its business rests on formulation and ingredient work rather than on consumer brands.

Still unclear
- Whether the conference figures — presentation counts and rankings — have been independently confirmed. All three documents attribute the numbers and the ranking to Cosmax; no statement from the IFSCC or another body is cited.
- Cosmax reinvesting 5% of annual revenue in research and development. Maeil Business states the figure; Yonhap and Asia Economy do not mention it, so it rests on one outlet.
- The name of the Cosmax chairman and the exact conference venue. Both appear only in Maeil Business, which names chairman Lee Kyung-soo and the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
