Jeju City said it has completed a national ecological trail of 9.43 km at Nokkomae Oreum, connecting Gutmul Oreum, Jageun Nokkomae Oreum and Keun Nokkomae Oreum. The city said the project was intended to protect the natural environment in the area and to give visitors a safe and comfortable forest path. A second outlet also reported the completion of the 9.43-km trail in a headline. [ 1 , 2 ]
According to the city, the project was selected in 2024 in a national subsidy competition run by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. Detailed design began in May 2025, and construction ran through September 2026, about two years in total. Total project cost was 1.8 billion won, including 900 million won in state funds. [ 2 ]
The city said eco-friendly walking mats were installed along about 8 km of the route to make walking safer, and that 1.71 km of older tire mats that had been installed previously and were said to spoil the appearance of the area were removed. A photo zone was added, along with chairs, a general information board, direction signs and rope repair work. [ 2 ]
Jeju City said it will next carry out maintenance of the Sangjat-gil section within the national ecological trail and add resident facilities such as pavilions and rest areas. It also plans to conduct a visitor satisfaction survey and monitoring alongside those works. The documents do not give a schedule for the additional facilities. [ 2 ]
Почему это важно
The route is presented by the city as a protected walking trail through Jeju’s volcanic terrain, which the documents tie to both conservation and visitor safety. It also brings national subsidy money into a local project and is followed by a second phase of resident facilities. The documents give no assessment of visitor numbers or environmental impact.
