Hanyang Cyber University said it signed an industry-commissioned education agreement with the Daegu Metropolitan City Office of Education at a ceremony held at the education office on September 30. The university said the agreement is meant to expand learning opportunities for the office's staff and to support their job skills, expertise and self-development. Daegu Superintendent Kang Eun-hee attended, along with Hanyang Cyber University vice president Chung Hyun-chul and admissions director Yang Jae-mo, according to the university. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Under the agreement, teachers, local public officials, education public workers and staff at private schools overseen by the office can apply to Hanyang Cyber University's undergraduate and graduate programs through the industry-commissioned admission track. The eligible group covers the office's affiliated bodies, district education support offices and directly established kindergartens, elementary, middle, high and special schools, the university said. Undergraduates admitted through the track receive a 50% reduction in regular tuition and an exemption from application fees, while graduate students receive a 30% reduction plus exemption from admission and application fees. [ 3 ]
Kang was quoted as saying that the cyber universities' curricula were varied and included much that the education office's staff needed, and that she hoped the agreement would widen their access to continued training. Chung said the university would work to develop education for the future and to be a responsible education partner based on its strengths, particularly in educational technology. [ 3 ]
The university said it offers educational technology from undergraduate level through master's and doctoral programs, covering teaching and learning innovation, edtech and digital education, alongside courses in AI, engineering, administration, welfare and management. It said its online degree programs and scholarships are designed to let working teachers, officials and education public workers study while staying in their jobs. [ 3 ]
Hankook Ilbo reported that six cyber universities took part in the agreement: Hanyang Cyber University, Seoul Cyber University, Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Daegu Cyber University, Korea Cyber University and Kyung Hee Cyber University. The other reports described only Hanyang Cyber University's participation. Hankook Ilbo also said Hanyang Cyber University's spring 2027 graduate admissions open in late October 2026 and its undergraduate admissions for the first semester of 2027 open in December 2026, with details to be posted on its admissions website. Why it matters
The agreement gives staff at the Daegu education office and its schools a route to online degree programs at reduced cost, and reflects cyber universities' push to enroll working public-sector employees. It is a routine institutional partnership rather than a policy change, and no enrollment targets or cost figures were disclosed.
