Hyundai Motor launched the 2027 Sonata The Edge, an annual update of its mid-size sedan, on Oct. 7, saying it widened the choice of trims, convenience equipment and interior colours. The announcement was carried by Yonhap, which attributed the details to the company, as well as by business and tech outlets. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]
The main change is a new Black N Line trim, a design-focused version built on the top Inspiration grade. Hyundai said it applies black exterior elements to the existing Sonata N Line design, adding a black Hyundai emblem and name lettering and 19-inch matte black wheels, which the company said maximises a “strong and dynamic image”. ZDNet Korea reported the trim is available with the gasoline 2.0, 1.6 turbo and hybrid powertrains and is separate from the gasoline 2.5 turbo N Line sold on its own. [ 1 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 12 ]
Hyundai also moved equipment down the range. The S trim now gets a passenger power seat with four-way adjustment, relaxation comfort and a walk-in device as standard, which Electronic Times said raises its usefulness as a family car. On the mainstay Exclusive trim, the Camel interior colour previously offered on Inspiration is now available. [ 1 , 3 , 4 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]
Prices for the gasoline 2.0 model are 28.76 million won for Premium, 30.28 million for S, 33.21 million for Exclusive, 36.15 million for Inspiration and 36.75 million for Black N Line. The 1.6 turbo model runs 29.43 million to 37.41 million won according to Maeil Business News, while Electronic Times gave a range of 29.43 million to 39.41 million won; several outlets list the 2.5 turbo N Line separately at 39.41 million won. Kyunghyang Shinmun and ZDNet Korea reported the Black N Line costs 600,000 won more than Inspiration with the same engine, a gap the Shinmun called effectively the price of the exterior design. [ 1 , 3 , 4 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 12 ]
Hybrid prices after tax benefits run from 33.28 million won for Premium to 40.52 million for Inspiration. The hybrid Black N Line is listed at 42.12 million won before tax benefits, and Hyundai said it will publish the after-benefit price once the eco-friendly vehicle certification is completed. Kyunghyang Shinmun noted that trim prices rose 500,000 to 790,000 won over the 2026 model but that the earlier prices were based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax that returned to 5% in July, and that the reduction of up to 700,000 won for hybrids is due to expire on Dec. 31. [ 1 , 3 , 4 , 8 , 9 , 12 ]
Hyundai will draw 100 customers who order a Black N Line in October and take delivery in November, giving them an N diffuser kit, a car air freshener. [ 3 , 8 , 12 ]
Electronic Times framed the update as reinforcing the Sonata’s value-for-size positioning as a price overlap opens with the new Avanté, and said the Sonata is holding first place in the mid-size sedan segment ahead of Kia’s K5. Hyundai’s quoted comment was that the 2027 Sonata The Edge offers “a wider range of choices” by expanding preferred equipment and adding the Black N Line, and that the company will keep working to provide products reflecting customers’ lifestyles and tastes. Why it matters
The Sonata is Hyundai’s flagship mid-size sedan, and this annual update widens the trim and option line-up rather than changing the powertrains. Electronic Times framed the launch as an effort to lock in a sales recovery in a segment where it says the Sonata leads Kia’s K5. Kyunghyang Shinmun notes that the individual consumption tax returned to 5% in July and that the hybrid tax reduction is due to expire on Dec. 31, leaving the final consumer price of some versions partly open.
