Gwangju Shinsegae said on Tuesday that it is selling desserts made with figs, a fruit in season in September and October, at its main store in Gwangju. The items are offered at Kitchen205, Elize de Palace and Mochitree, all located on basement level 1 of the main branch, according to Yonhap and Asia Economy. [ 1 , 2 ]
Yonhap reported that the cakes include fig field cake, fig fresh cream cake and fig piece cake, priced from 9,000 to 48,000 won. Fig-based mochi — plain mochi, fresh chocolate mochi and traditional red bean mochi — are priced from 3,500 to 4,500 won, it said. Asia Economy reported separately that Kitchen205, known for its strawberry field cake, is selling its fig field cake in limited quantities from August through October, with fig flesh worked into both the surface and the inside of the cake, and that Elize de Palace, a premium cake brand of Palace Confectionery, is selling a fig fresh cream cake made with animal-based fresh cream and fresh fruit. [ 1 , 2 ]
Kwok Hyuk-won, head of the food team at Gwangju Shinsegae, said the cakes and mochi are recommended for customers preparing outdoor outings during the Hangul Day holiday so they can enjoy the freshness of seasonal fruit, according to Yonhap. Asia Economy also quoted Kwok as saying he hopes many customers will visit the store, where a range of food and entertainment continues. [ 1 , 2 ]
Both outlets described figs as being at their best in taste and nutrition in September and October and as rich in antioxidant compounds and dietary fibre, which Yonhap said help prevent cell ageing and support gut health and are popular with women. Neither document gave sales targets or said how long the remaining fig products will stay on sale. [ 1 , 2 ]
Почему это важно
The launch is a seasonal retail promotion by a single regional department store, with no indication in the documents of wider market effects. It shows how Korean retailers time fresh-fruit product lines around the autumn harvest and the Hangul Day holiday shopping period.
