Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree awarding Nikolai Burlyaev, chairman of the commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia on culture, the Medal of Francis Skorina, TASS, RIA Novosti and Vedomosti reported. Skorina, the outlet said, was a philosopher, printer and scholar who in 1517 published the “Psalter” translated into Old Belarusian and in the early 1520s opened the first printing house in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
