OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users and adds 'Intelligent UI' answers

🇯🇵 Japan 07:09 AI Tech4 updated 10 h ago first reported by Impress Watch

In short

OpenAI said on October 7 that it is bringing GPT-6 to ChatGPT and launching Intelligent UI, a feature that answers with diagrams, graphs, buttons, forms and small tools instead of text alone. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users get it first, with GPT-6 Sol, and the Free and Go plans follow from October 8 with GPT-6 Luna, Japanese tech outlets reported.

OpenAI announced on October 7 that it is bringing its GPT-6 model to ChatGPT and launching a feature called Intelligent UI, which adds visual and interactive elements to answers, Japanese tech outlets reported. The rollout began on October 7 for the Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans in ChatGPT's Chat tab, and it extends to the Free and Go plans from October 8. ITmedia reported that the rollout is worldwide and that Enterprise availability depends on administrator settings. Impress Watch listed monthly prices of 3,000 yen for Plus, from 16,800 yen for Pro and 1,400 yen for Go. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

Paid plans use GPT-6 Sol, and the Free and Go plans use GPT-6 Luna. Gigazine reported that OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in September, at first mainly for paying users, and that the free plan had used GPT-5.6 Luna as its standard model since August. According to the system card OpenAI published at the same time, cited by ITmedia, the October versions of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna replace GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna in ChatGPT. [ 2 , 3 ]

With Intelligent UI, the model decides how to combine text, visuals and interactive elements such as buttons, forms and graphs, and answers in text alone when that works best, ITmedia reported. OpenAI's examples include a seven-speed bicycle whose parts users can select for details, a lamb roast menu that recalculates ingredients as the number of guests changes, trip stops shown on a map, interactive explanations of the central limit theorem and the Monty Hall problem, and tools such as bill-splitting and savings calculators. Gigazine reported that the interface starts appearing before the full answer has been generated. OpenAI said: "Rather than people adapting to software, software will adapt to people." [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

GPT-6 can also start writing an answer while it is still reasoning. OpenAI said its internal evaluation found that GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions that need web search 44% faster on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. ITmedia reported that, on everyday agent tasks, GPT-6 Extra High scored higher overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High while starting to answer in about the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium. [ 2 , 3 ]

On safety, ITmedia reported that under the Preparedness Framework both models are treated as having High capability in cybersecurity and in biology and chemistry, with the same safeguards as GPT-5.6, and that they do not reach the High threshold for AI self-improvement. Some safety evaluation scores fell by a statistically significant margin: self-harm for both Sol and Luna, and graphic violence and sexual content for Luna. OpenAI said a manual review found the affected responses were borderline and low in severity. [ 2 ]

Why it matters

The update moves the free tier of ChatGPT from GPT-5.6 Luna to GPT-6 Luna, so GPT-6 reaches all ChatGPT users rather than mainly paying ones, according to Gigazine. OpenAI calls Intelligent UI a first step towards a ChatGPT that generates interfaces to fit what users want to do. ITmedia also reported that OpenAI's own system card shows some safety evaluation scores fell compared with the previous models.

Still unclear

  • Whether the safety evaluation declines matter in practice. Only ITmedia reported that self-harm scores fell for Sol and Luna and that graphic violence and sexual content scores fell for Luna; OpenAI said a manual review found the responses borderline and low in severity.
  • How GPT-6 Extra High compares with earlier models. The claim that it beats GPT-5.6 Extra High while starting answers about as fast as GPT-5.6 Medium comes from OpenAI's internal evaluation and was reported only by ITmedia.
  • What further changes OpenAI plans for the Free and Go plans. ITmedia's text is cut off mid-sentence after describing which model each plan uses.
  • Plan prices in yen. Only Impress Watch gave yen prices for the Plus, Pro and Go plans.
