According to the police, A and the others met a man in his 30s, identified as B, through a chat application and proposed prostitution to lure him to a location in Chungju at about 4 a.m. on 5 October, where they threatened him. Kukmin Ilbo reported that the suspects posed as a woman on the application and led B to the parking lot of a building in Chungju, where they filmed him with a mobile phone while asking whether he had come for prostitution. CBS NoCut News also described the location as a parking lot in Chungju and said the suspects met B on a random chat application and attempted to film a YouTube live broadcast while asking him whether he had come for prostitution. The outlets differ on what happened when B tried to drive away. Yonhap, Seoul Shinmun and CBS NoCut News reported that the suspects stood in front of the car to block it, with NoCut News saying they obstructed its movement. Kukmin Ilbo reported that A clung to the vehicle to prevent it from moving and was carried about 20 metres, and that B was booked on a charge of special assault for driving with A hanging on the car.
