Taean County in South Chungcheong said on the 22nd that from the 24th it will refund up to 30,000 won in Onnuri gift certificates to people who shop at traditional markets and alley-type shopping streets. Newsis and Seoul Shinmun said the refund events resume at seven traditional markets and shopping streets in turn. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

According to Yonhap, the refund depends on the total bought on the same day. A purchase of 30,000 won to under 60,000 won earns 10,000 won, 60,000 won to under 90,000 won earns 20,000 won, and 90,000 won or more earns 30,000 won. Seoul Shinmun said shoppers buy at participating shops, then bring the payment receipt and ID to a refund booth in the market and receive about 33 percent of their spending back in Onnuri gift certificates. [ 1 , 3 ]

The events begin on the 24th at Baekhwa alley-type shopping street in Taean-eup, followed by Anmyeondo Fish Market on the 31st. In November they move to Baeksajanghang alley-type shopping street on the 1st, Sinjinhang alley-type shopping street on the 6th, Taean five-day market and Dongbu Market on the 13th, and Seobu Market on the 14th. Korea Western Power is providing the funding, 90 million won in Onnuri gift certificates. Newsis and Seoul Shinmun said the sum is paid in full in paper vouchers. Newsis said the event follows an agreement among six institutions signed in August and carries the subtitle of a campaign to revive the markets. The county expects at least 300 million won in consumption. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

The county said the event coincides with the Korea Grand Festival. A county official was quoted as saying the festival's synergy should be greater for local shopping areas, and he asked people to visit traditional markets to ease grocery costs and help merchants in struggling alley commercial districts. Seoul Shinmun wrote that earlier refund events by the county sold out their vouchers early. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
