Trump announces “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate US work on AI

🇷🇺 Russia, Washington 03:06 AI Business3 Tech Official updated 1 d ago first reported by РБК

In short

US President Donald Trump announced the creation of a “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF) to coordinate the federal government’s work on artificial intelligence, writing about it on Truth Social. Vedomosti named four officials to lead it — Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, FTC chairman Andrew Ferguson, deputy secretary of war for research and development Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor — while Meduza said Trump appointed Clayton as its head. Clayton said the group’s first task is a 120-day report assessing the risks and opportunities of AI and recommending a possible government role.

US President Donald Trump announced the creation of a “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF), RIA Novosti, RBC, Vedomosti and Meduza reported. Vedomosti said Trump wrote about the decision on Truth Social and that it followed a “historic” agreement at the White House on “superintelligence”, at which the world’s most important technology companies gathered. RBC said the announcement was about the creation of the Super Intelligence Force, or SIF. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

According to Vedomosti, the new structure will coordinate the federal government’s efforts to preserve America’s leadership in “superintelligence”, and will coordinate the federal government’s interaction with consumers, public groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and business. Meduza described it as coordinating the government’s work in AI as well as the authorities’ interaction with major market players and consumers. [ 3 , 4 ]

Vedomosti said the structure will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, deputy secretary of war for research and development Emil Michael and US Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor, who will report to the president and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles. Meduza reported that Trump appointed Clayton as head of the Super Intelligence Force — a difference from Vedomosti’s account of four leaders. [ 3 , 4 ]

Meduza said Clayton told The Wall Street Journal that the group’s first task is to prepare a report within 120 days assessing the risks and opportunities linked to AI and recommending a possible role for the government. Vedomosti, citing The Wall Street Journal’s report of 3 October, said the White House working group headed by Clayton must assess the risks and opportunities of AI within 120 days and present recommendations on the federal government’s oversight role. [ 3 , 4 ]

Background cited by the outlets: at the end of September Trump signed an order replacing the term “artificial intelligence” (AI) with “superintelligence” (SI) in the executive branch, Vedomosti said. Meduza said Trump met the heads of the largest technology companies at the White House on 30 September, and that participants signed a document obliging more attention to AI safety and control. Vedomosti said that on 4 October Elon Musk called for artificial intelligence to be called superintelligence, and that Trump claims superintelligence is “bigger than the industrial revolution and the internet” and will protect the interests of and improve life for all Americans. [ 3 , 4 ]

Why it matters

The new body is presented as the main coordinating point between the US federal government, technology companies and infrastructure providers on superintelligence, a framing US officials have adopted after Trump’s order replacing the term artificial intelligence. The 120-day assessment attributed to Clayton could shape what role the US government takes in overseeing the technology. The announcement follows a White House meeting with major technology companies and, as described by Russian outlets, is a US policy step with consequences for the global AI industry.
