Atlanta beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 in Game 2 of their National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on 5 October Korea time, levelling the best-of-five series at 1-1. Yonhap reported that Atlanta, which lost Game 1, returns home looking to turn the series around. Chosun Ilbo described the result as a reply by Atlanta, and Newsis carried photographs of the game. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
Yonhap reported the scoring: Atlanta took the lead in the first inning with two outs and the bases loaded when Mauricio Dubon hit an infield single off Dodgers starter Blake Snell, whose control wavered. Freddie Freeman levelled it 1-1 in the fourth with a solo home run over right field against his former club. Atlanta went back ahead in the fifth when Michael Harris II tripled with two outs and scored on a wild pitch, and made it 3-1 in the seventh on Harris’s RBI double. Max Muncy’s solo home run in the ninth cut the gap but did not overturn the result. Braves reliever Didier Fuentes, who entered in the sixth, pitched 3⅔ innings for one hit and one run, and Harris finished with three hits in five at-bats, one RBI and one run. [ 2 ]
Kim Ha-seong of Atlanta and Kim Hye-seong of the Dodgers did not play. Yonhap said both stayed on the bench, Chosun Ilbo’s OSEN review said they were both absent from the lineup, and Sports Chosun noted that Kim Ha-seong had started Game 1 before sitting out Game 2. A Chosun Ilbo headline also said Ohtani “did nothing”, a claim that does not appear in the other documents. [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]
In the other NLDS, Milwaukee beat San Diego 4-3. Yonhap reported that San Diego led 2-0 through Tai France’s RBI single and a run in the fifth, that Milwaukee pulled one back in the fifth on Sal Frelick’s single, and that San Diego restored a two-run lead in the seventh before Milwaukee closed to 3-2 on an error. San Diego brought in closer Mason Miller from the eighth, but Milwaukee loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth on three walks, and Jackson Chourio hit Miller’s 101.3 mph pitch for a two-run single to centre field that ended the game. Newsis reported Milwaukee won 4-3 to take a second straight win. With a 2-0 lead, Milwaukee needs one more win from the remaining three games to reach the National League Championship Series. [ 1 , 2 ]
Yonhap reported that Game 3 for both series will be played on 7 October, after a rest day, in Atlanta and San Diego. [ 2 ]
Why it matters
The NLDS between Atlanta and the Dodgers is now level, with the series moving to Atlanta for Game 3, so the outcome remains open. For Korean readers, the coverage centred on Kim Ha-seong and Kim Hye-seong, both of whom sat out Game 2. Milwaukee’s 2-0 lead over San Diego puts it one win from the National League Championship Series.
