Jeil Pharmaceutical said on Oct 6 that it was selected as a performer company in the global academic conference, exhibition and partnering event participation support category of the 2026 second Pharmaceutical and Bio Global Expansion Support Project, known as K-VIP. The program is hosted by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) and is a government project aimed at supporting Korean pharmaceutical and bio companies' global expansion efforts, according to Asia Economy and Seoul Economic Daily. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The two outlets said the program provides selected companies with support for the costs of attending overseas conferences, exhibitions and partnering events. Both reported that Jeil Pharmaceutical will use the support to take part in major global partnering events including Bio-Europe 2026, where it plans to hold direct partnering meetings with global pharmaceutical and bio companies and look for potential partners and business cooperation. [ 1 , 2 ]
Seoul Economic Daily reported that the company is developing its own pipelines in metabolic and oncology areas, including the next-generation diabetes treatment JP-2266 and the innovative anticancer drug JP9441, and that the technical competitiveness and global commercialization potential of those pipelines were assessed positively during the selection process. Asia Economy and Seoul Economic Daily both said the company aims to expand overseas commercialization of its reflux disease drug Zacubo and to seek technology export, or licensing-out, opportunities for its own pipelines. [ 1 , 2 ]
Kim Su-mi, head of Jeil Pharmaceutical's global business division, said the K-VIP selection would let the company widen its contacts with overseas companies at major global partnering events. "We will continue to expand Zacubo's global commercialization while broadening overseas entry and commercialization opportunities for our own new drug pipeline, and work to turn this into tangible results," she said. [ 1 , 2 ]
Asia Economy described K-VIP as a response to tightening import and export regulations, supply chain risks and changes in the trade environment, aimed at strengthening the global competitiveness of the domestic pharmaceutical and bio industry. The documents did not disclose the size of the support or any expected deal values. [ 1 ]
Seoul Shinmun and Newsis also reported the selection at headline level, framing it as an acceleration of the company's global expansion. Newsis' article text, however, was an unrelated report about Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, with only its headline addressing the Jeil Pharmaceutical selection. [ 3 , 4 ]
Why it matters
The selection gives a mid-sized Korean pharmaceutical company government-funded access to global partnering events, which its own statements tie to licensing and overseas commercialization goals. For readers outside Korea, the practical effect depends on whether the partnering meetings produce deals, which the documents do not yet show.
