Russia's defence ministry said Russian forces struck a missile and artillery weapons depot in the settlement of Ilyichevka in the Odesa region. RIA Novosti and TASS reported the strike in short announcements, with TASS naming Ilyichevka as the location. Interfax and Vedomosti attributed the same account to the defence ministry. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
According to Interfax and Vedomosti, Russian forces continued drone strikes overnight into Tuesday against logistics centres, transport and port infrastructure in Ukraine, as well as sea vessels involved in the interests of Ukraine's armed forces. The defence ministry was cited as the source of that account. [ 3 , 4 ]
Vedomosti reported further ministry claims: a dry cargo ship was hit in Chornomorsk port, which the ministry said had delivered dual-use cargo to supply Ukrainian troops, and berthing infrastructure used for unloading and storing military cargo was hit in Izmail port. Vedomosti also said that on 5 October a dry cargo ship carrying supplies for Ukraine's armed forces was hit in Yuzhny port. [ 4 ]
Vedomosti added that in the morning, Russian Geran drone crews hit Ukrainian radar stations in the Poltava and Odesa regions — a P-37 “Mech” radar in Mirgorod and a 35D6 radar in Kagarlyk. The ministry also reported strikes on the Kochetok power substation in the Kharkiv region, the port point of Vilkovo in the Odesa region, which it said was used to move military cargo, and fuel storage facilities in Chornomorsk port. [ 4 ]
All accounts in the documents come from the Russian defence ministry as relayed by Russian outlets. The documents contain no Ukrainian response, no independent confirmation and no assessment of damage or casualties. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
Why it matters
The strikes are described by Russia's defence ministry as part of continuing drone attacks on Ukrainian logistics, port and transport infrastructure. Ports in the Odesa region handle shipping and cargo, so claims of repeated hits there bear on the wider war effort at sea and on the coastline. All accounts in the documents come from the Russian side; no Ukrainian or independent account of the damage is present.
