In short

Huons (휴온스) said on 20 October it presented preclinical results for HUC1A-626, a selective TG2 inhibitor being developed for fibrostenotic Crohn's disease, as a poster at UEG Week 2026 in Barcelona. The company said the candidate showed high inhibitory potency and selectivity against TG2 and reduced fibrotic lesions in animal models.

Huons (휴온스) said on 20 October that it had presented preclinical research results on HUC1A-626, a selective TG2 inhibitor, as a poster at UEG Week 2026, the annual conference of the European gastroenterology society held in Barcelona, Spain. Asia Economy, Korea Economic Daily and Newsis reported that the conference ran from 17 to 20 October local time. Asia Economy and Newsis carried a company photo of Huons researchers presenting the poster on 18 October local time. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

HUC1A-626 is being developed by Huons for fibrostenotic Crohn's disease (FSCD). Korea Economic Daily explained that intestinal fibrosis occurs when fibroblasts activated by repeated inflammation accumulate extracellular matrix (ECM) excessively, so that the bowel wall thickens and the intestinal tract narrows. Korea Economic Daily and Newsis said it is a major complication seen in about half of Crohn's disease patients. According to the company, current biologic drugs are effective at controlling inflammation but have limits in suppressing or reversing fibrotic lesions that have already progressed. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

TG2 is an enzyme that abnormally cross-links ECM proteins and prevents accumulated matrix from breaking down, hardening tissue, the outlets said. Huons researchers developed an oral TG2 inhibitor designed to act locally in the intestine and evaluated its anti-fibrotic effect in cell and animal models. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

In the preclinical work, HUC1A-626 showed high inhibitory potency and selectivity against TG2, according to Asia Economy, Korea Economic Daily and Newsis. In experiments with human colon-derived fibroblasts, TG2 inhibition produced an anti-fibrotic effect. In animal models, fibrotic lesions and insoluble collagen content decreased, and histological and quantitative analyses also showed an anti-fibrotic effect. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

Park Kyung-mi (박경미), Huons' vice president for research and development, was quoted by Asia Economy, Seoul Economic Daily and Newsis as saying the company would develop the candidate as a first-in-class drug that breaks the cycle of fibrosis continuing after inflammation subsides. Korea Economic Daily quoted her as saying the study confirmed the possibility of regulating ECM cross-linking and fibroblast activation together through TG2 inhibition, and that Huons would verify the therapeutic potential through follow-up development. Seoul Economic Daily quoted her as saying the study confirmed that a TG2 inhibitor can control both at the same time. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

Korea Economic Daily said Huons plans to develop the candidate as a treatment for fibrostenotic Crohn's disease with a mechanism different from existing drugs. None of the reports gives human trial data or a development timetable. [ 2 ]

Why it matters

The results are preclinical, from cell and animal models, and the documents give no human data or development timetable. The coverage rests on the company's own announcement, which says current biologic drugs have limits against established fibrosis.

What local media are saying

Business mediaFour business outlets reported the company's announcement with near-identical detail: the poster at UEG Week 2026, TG2 inhibition, results in cell and animal models, and the vice president's comments. They attribute the findings to Huons and do not report independent comment. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
