Britain's Prince Harry has said he wants to reconcile with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William. Sankei Shimbun and Nikkei, carrying a Kyodo report from London, said he made the remarks in an interview with the US magazine GQ, given by the 20th. [ 3 , 5 ]
Harry said there are times when siblings disagree and when relationships between parents and children break down. He then said the most important thing is to reconcile. According to Mainichi Shimbun, he said: "There are people who don't want it resolved. But I want to resolve it. Many things are happening in the world, but the most important thing is reconciliation." He also said: "The scars remain forever," and described letting go of the past as something he would recommend to everyone. [ 3 , 4 , 5 ]
Mainichi Shimbun reported that the interview was given in New York in late September and published on 20 October. It described Harry as King Charles's second son and said the remarks are the first on his relationship with the royal family to become public since he returned to Britain. [ 4 ]
Kyodo's text said Harry left royal duties in 2020, moved to the United States and criticised the royal family, and that the family returned to Britain in August this year. Mainichi said the family, including his wife Meghan and their two children, returned fully from California in late August after six years. [ 3 , 4 , 5 ]
Harry said that being able to send his two children to school in Britain after returning meant a great deal. Mainichi quoted him as saying he is glad to be near his family and to be able to spend a long time in Britain. Mainichi also said the family is believed to live in a private home in the Cotswolds. It reported that Harry and Meghan visited a charity in Nottingham on 15 October, their first joint public appearance since returning, and were welcomed by people who handed them bouquets. [ 3 , 4 ]
Why it matters
The outlets treat the remarks as a notable statement on a strained royal family relationship, made soon after Harry's family returned to Britain. The documents do not report any response from the King or Prince William.
